Would really appreciate any help. I haven't been able to find a perfume I like for years.

I really love vanilla essential oil, and the sweet powdery type of amber. Also like sandalwood.

Are there any perfumes with a strong vanilla and/or amber base? I tried Givenchy Organza Indecence a few years ago, but (I'm such a twat :o) the name puts me right off. It's such a mouthful. "What perfume do you use, JM?" "Givenchy Organza Indecence." "Erm what, it's indecent???" Or I just call it "Indecence" which is worse, or say its by Givenchy and I can't remember the name so I look feeble...

Anyway, if I really loved it I'd put up with its stupid name but it's definitely not "the one".

Can anyone recommend any others? Im looking for
sweet
vanilla
amber
anything that smells like sugar cookies :)

Thanks in advance!!

Would advise trying a tester of Angel by Thierry Mugler, my DSis loves vanilla fragrance & always asks for this.

CountBapula · 07/11/2011 15:33

As an alternative, you could try Bliss vanilla and bergamot body butter. I sometimes use it on my shoulders and - ahem - décolletage instead of perfume, and it smells delish, like really good vanilla ice cream Grin

Jacksmania · 07/11/2011 15:57

I've tried Angel, it doesn't suit me :( - smelled lovely on avfriend and yucky on me.
I love Bliss body butter, but do you find the scent flies away very quickly? It doesn't seem to last.

Thank you for the suggestions so far :)

I think lush does a vanilla perfume.

niminypiminy · 07/11/2011 18:06

Shalimar by Guerlain

MrsKitty · 07/11/2011 18:10

Jo Malone do a vanilla based scent and an amber based scent.

rosie17 · 07/11/2011 18:20

Jo Malone's Amber and lavender range is heavenly

AutumnWitch · 07/11/2011 18:22

I was going Shalimar - famous for it's vanilla, or Prada Amber

Makeyerowndamndinner · 07/11/2011 18:24

I was going to say Prada Amber as well - it's lovely.

Burberry Woman (the roundish bottle) is a great but subtle vanilla-peachy-musky perfume that doesn't smell cheap or headach-y. I have never been able pull off Angel or Shalimar, but this works for me, even at work.

If you like that type of scents, sample Chanel Coco (my current favorite, infinitely complex, lovely sillage) and the more straightforward Calvin Klein Obsession (what I used in my 20s, don't like any more) as well.

Pollykitten · 07/11/2011 19:39

Coco Chanel

I wear Armani Code sometimes which is quite vanilla-y, but not too sickly.

Viktor & Rolf flowerbomb as well maybe? It's similar to Thierry Mugler Angel, but not as sweet (IMO!)

Jo Malone Blue Agava and Cacao. Yummy!

Nechy · 07/11/2011 23:38

Lancome hypnose & hypnose sense are quite vanilla-y

Lolita Lempicka

Have a look in this month's "Easy Living" magazine - there's an article on perfumes like this.

Les Nereides do a nice (relatively cheap) perfume called "Vanille Douce" (I think ????) that smells of sexy cupcakes. Negative side: a. might not be perfume-y enough for you b. you'd have to buy it by post.

kerstina · 07/11/2011 23:51

DKNY for woman has a perfume out with vanilla not sure what it is like but I was going to put it on my xmas wish list as I love vanilla too.

youngblowfish · 08/11/2011 02:44

If you like tobacco notes, then Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille is truly amazing and IMO quite foody. You can also try his Amber Absolute for amber notes. I love them both.

SayItIsntSo · 08/11/2011 03:11

I was going to say Jo Malone too, really interesting scents: or Angel which you don't like (I don't get on with it either but it seems to be like catnip for men! mannip ...)

HazleNutt · 08/11/2011 06:58

Lush has a pure vanilla perfume, it's lovely.

Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan or Bois de Vanille. L'Occitaine's Amber Oil is lovely too (and inexpensive).

I find Angel completely repellant. I literally have to walk away from people who are wearing it. Which is strange because when it first came out I loved it.

Jacksmania · 08/11/2011 14:59

Wow, thank you all for the ideas!

Has anyone tried "L" by Lolita Lempicka? I read a few good reviews of it.

There's a lovely diptyque one that is vanilla-y - think it's called Eau Duelle

1gglePiggle · 09/11/2011 15:31

Vanilla scents used to be really popular in the mid 90's, I don't know why they're not around anymore, obviously not popular enough! But I loved Vanilla Musk, Vanilla Fields and vanilla impulse! You can still get vanilla impulse on eBay as it's still sold in Germany. Reminds me of my late teens, love it!

EdithWeston · 09/11/2011 15:34

Dior's Poison has a vanilla note in it.

And Guerlain's Aqua Allgoria Ylang Vanille is lovely.
