Best anti-aging face/neck regime if money is no object

I am 30, but am lucky to have what seems to be decent skin and I'm usually mistaken for being younger. However, I would like to start taking care of my face and neck and begin an anti-aging regime to try and keep my skin in good condition.

I am embarrased to say that I haven't been using anything on my face - ever! I wash it with soap and water and I am good with keeping out of the sun/using sun lotion (being a pale redhead I have to be!).

I don't have an unlimited budget, but I would like to know what people think is the best regime to use regardless of the cost, just to give me a good feel for what is out there because I am clueless!

I am a bit of a skin care freak as I had terrible eczema on my face years ago.

My single piece of advice is USE SUN BLOCK ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

I have used clinique city block spf 25/40 for about 20 years now and not boasting, people mistake me for early 40s when I am really 56.

Quality does not equal price- some of the cheaper ranges such as Olay, etc are good.

someone here recommended the website beautypedia.com- well worth a browse as some of the brands we think are good- eg Clarins- are slagged off.

should work-
www.beautypedia.com

My other advice is use a gentle cleanser- eg L'Oreal, Boots No 7, Olay-- skip toner and use warm water and spend your £££ on a decent moisturiser and sun block.

Thank you for replying! Have taken your advice on board and am off to look around that website! :)

Daily use of a gentle exfoliator, a moisturiser that suits your skin, and deep moisturiser overnight.

Face masks are good for a weekly treat too - I use Mudd clay ones and they stop my pores getting clogged, but choose one suited to your skin type.

Thank you! Have no idea what skin type I am, which probably means 'normal'?!

'normal' just means you don't tend to have problems with dry skin, redness, or with excess grease and spots, so judging by your lax previous skincare regime I'd say you were 'normal' Envy

If you can be bothered, the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser would be good - if you're used to using soap on your face, a water-based cleanser would be best and scrubbing your face with the muslin cloth that comes with it make you feel lovely and clean, plus it exfoliates and smells gorgeous too. £15ish for a massive bottle that lasts ages. The matching moisturiser didn't suit my skin (I have weird combination skin meaning I get spots and dry patches, lucky me) but it does smell lovely and gets good reviews for normal skin.

Stripeybumpinthenight it sounds like we have the same skin... I love the Liz Earle cleanser but the moisturiser was not right for me at all. Interested in what moisturiser you are using. I am using Lauder daywear but it is just OK not great.

Thanks :)

I have written all of your tips down and I will be going into town tommorrow, so I will have a look for the things you recommend!

I used to use Eve Lom cleanser (pre DD when money was no object) and it was brilliant. I now use Ren Purity Cleansing Balm which is similar and also pretty good.

I am currently trialling the Clinique Turnaround Moisturiser for MN and it seems pretty good so far though it's only been 3 days.

Pocket - I use Olay Regenerist, sinks into my skin without feeling greasy but is a lovely cream texture, really light and ok as a base for make-up, although I keep meaning to look into primers which I think would be good for evening up my skin a bit before putting on my foundation.

pocketandsweet · 08/11/2011 08:03

thanks Stripey... Just curious does the Regenerist smell funny? I had what I think was an earlier version and although it felt lovely it had this funny burnt smell that made me crazy and I gave it away. I would gladly give it a go again if it no longer had that smell.

Apparently the only thing that really works at keeping younger looking skin is Retin-A cream. You need to be sure to keep out of the sun though as it makes skin sensitive.
Mind you I am nearly 20 yrs older than you and have just ordered my first tube of it so maybe a bit early for you.
At your age I would say sunscreen and a decent moisturiser would suffice with the occassional exfoliation.

stripeybumpinthenight · 08/11/2011 19:58

Pocket - don't think so, it smells quite um perfumey really, quite a nice smell I guess!

I also use basic Nivea cream as a deep overnight moisturiser, it's really rich and heavy but doesn't seem to give me spots, it feels ridiculously heavy when I first put it on but I wake with nice soft skin.
