Lush henna with grey hair - should I?

I've been coloring my hair for years and normally use a permanent hair dye at home between salon colors. I have lots (about 95%) white hair and for some, unknown reason, I bought lush henna. I used to use it years ago before I was so great and loved it - could even overlook the smell and the mess. However, I'm wondering if it's wise to go for it with so much grey (currently have lots of grey roots).

Also, if it doesn't cover the grey properly, can I put a permanent color on top or will it not take over henna?

Noooooo! Your hair or at least roots, will go bright Ronals McDonald orange! Bad idea. Henna is notorious and it is alo hard to cover. Dont do it!

nooooooooooooooooooooooo no no no - as above

Agree with above. You will have bright red highlights! That's the reason I stopped using Lush henna.

It's the dark brown henna, I don't think it will go red, just that I'll get light brown root glow. Never had Ronald McDonald orange before ... will it go with my clown shoes and rotating bow tie? Grin

chemical dyes will not take over the top of henna, it should cover grey, it will go bright orange at first and then darken over a few days.
see profile for recently henna'd hair, mine is now a much darker richer red than it was when I took photo. the bit that is bright orange was a very light blond, the rest was red (natural).
and omg my hair smelt like heaven for weeks. going to do it again this week sometime, I velieve it gets more vibrant each time you do it.

Only if you want to look like Marmalade Jenkins.

No dont do it, it will end in tears.

I know.... but most of my hair (except the inch closest to my head) is dark brown so I'm not going to go orange. I've used lush henna loads of times on all dark hair and it goes a gorgeous dark shiny chocolate color. I'm going to end up stripy and not in a good way, aren't I?

Hello - yes you certainly CAN use Henna. The colour you get will depend on how you use this wonderful plant. I'm white/gray and have used Henna for the most wonderful colours on my hair. If you do a "Henna wash or a Henna gloss," you will get a much diluted colour - instead of the proverbial orange, you will get a beautiful gold. I've learned to use henna to my advantage; there's no way I will put commercial hair dye on my head. May I recommend the HENNA FOR HAIR website.
