Semi Permanent Hair colour query

Poss a bit of a dumb question but I'm a bit out the loop with these things.

I normally have highlights in my blonde (kind of mousey / dark blonde which goes light in the sun) but am currently too skint and have a, not that obvious admittedly, four inch regrowth which is driving me mad.

I am toying with the idea of a semi permanent colour on it to liven it up and the regrowth seem a bit less obvious and wondered about the Loreal Creme Gloss colours, in a slightly lighter shade than the colour I am now. (The clour closest to my natural colour is the one called 'Caramel' and am thinking of a shade or two lighter.) Apparently they 'fade' after 28 washes (or similar) but I was of the thinking that hair cannot go lighter in a semi permanent way, only permanent and I don't want to end up with even more obvious roots!

Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I don't want to simply opt for the closest colour to my natural shade if I can help it (as natural shade is comparatively dull!)

you won't be able to lighten with a semi.

try a shade close to your natural colour and you'll be able to 'blend in' your highlights to an extent.

a semi will make your hair nice and shiny and 'brighten it' if that is what you want?

Nagoo, thanks. Yes, I think I basically want to brighten it up. Realistically it doesn't look that bad but it's driving me mad regardless.
Shame my natural colour's a rather boring one...

Hi,

I'm in almost exactly the same position and also thinking about L'Oreal Casting in Caramel or maybe Iced Latte.

The thing that puts me off is the fear that the more processed, coloured ends will absorb a lot more colour than the roots and could end up looking a bit two-tone and weird.

Word of warning: those semi-permanents come out way darker than they say on the box. And that's on unprocessed hair. I have naturally mid-dark brown hair and I used to use one of the light brown shades to cover a few greys. It would often come out looking a bit goth and really dark/flat brown. It would lighten as the colour faded and washed out but it was scary how dark it would go at first. I'd recommend going for a shade way lighter than you are now.
