Tinted moisturiser/foundation to make me look 20 again...

Ladies,

Can anyone recommend a really good tinted moisturiser/foundation?

My requirements are:
-Cannot take 4 million hours to sink in
-Do not wish to look shiny
-Cannot make me break out
-Cannot sink into the lines on my harrowed forehead and accentuate them.

I've tried Laura Mercier, and found I was a bit shiny (Millie from Made In Chelsea style!) I've also tried the Nivea one people raved about, and I was allergic.

I don't mind a foundation, but I don't want to look cakey and orange. Surely something exists? I'm not willing to spend a fortune, but it doesn't have to be super cheap either - I'd say I'll spend around £25 if it was perfect.

Any suggestions, oh wise and fresh faced ones?

Foundation neednt be "orange" - if it is you have simply chosen the wrong colour for your skin tone. I have quite pale oily skin and think Revlons Colourstay (£14 from Boots) in Ivory is fantastic. You probably need to use powder over your foundation to stop it being shiny - Im also a lover of mineral make up and use l'Oreals on my nose as it disguises my pores.

Dont know about whether it would sink into lines or not though.

I've heard/read good comments about the Liz Earle tinted moisturiser but haven't tried it myself yet...

Pinkflipflop · 05/11/2011 16:06

this is slightly over budget but really worth it I have been using it for years and would not be tempted for love or money to change!!

chipstick10 · 05/11/2011 17:37

I cannot get on with Laura Mercier tinted moist the colours are wrong and its a bit dewy. I have tried every tinted moist known to man and the only one i can get on with is Mac. The colour is right and the consistancy, nice coverage and not too dewy. Foundation should disappear when you put it on, if you can see it its the wrong colour. I find yellow toned foundation the most flattering. This is Bobbi Browns mantra and i do follow it. In fact bobbi brown foundations are very flattering and non cakey. I like Mac but have found they can look a bit cakey if you are too heavy handed. Putting foundation on with fingers will give a finer, less coverage finish. Using a make up brush gives heavier coverage.

Havingkittens · 05/11/2011 17:50

If you find yellow based foundations more flattering then it's probably because you have yellow undertones to your skin. It's not flattering if your skin is not that colour.

OP, have you tried the Oil Free LM one? Not as shiney as it doesn't have the illuminising glow to it. Lancome's Teint Miracle is really flattering, or the Teint Idole Ultra (they also do a sheer version of this) are also both lovely and you can get a 7 day sample from them so you can try before you buy. Dior's newly formulated Dior Skin Forever is gorgeous too but can be a little shiney for the T-Zone if you don't like the glowy look. Something with a bit of a glow to it will make you look younger than something matte. You can compromise by blotting you T Zone with powder.

Havingkittens, I've tried the Oil Free LM one and it still wasn't great. I found it separated a bit (oily top layer, cakey bottom layer). On a side note, another one for separating in a big way was Clinique's cityblock. And it smelt funny.

chipstick10, I've also tried Bobbi Brown, but I couldn't get a colour match (am vampire pale, but with peachy, not pink undertones)

Sadly I'm allergic to Lancome (and Clarins, and Bare Minerals, and No 7).

It sounds like Mac might be worth a try, as well as Dior and Liz Earle. Will also check out the Revlon foundations - I seem to remember having success with Revlon when I was (much!) younger.

Pinkflipflop, where sells the Armani makeup? I've never seen that before and I'm intrigued.

New Liz Earle tinted moisturiser is v good-somehow manages to be both quite pigmented and really sheer so skin looks amazing. I like it better than my Bobby Brown one, which I've always loved.

Pinkflipflop · 05/11/2011 18:37

You could try selfridges if it's close to you?

I really want you to try it as I know you'll love it!!

chipstick10 · 05/11/2011 18:44

Gradually Mac are very happy to give little sample pots so be sure to ask for a couple of colours.

Havingkittens · 05/11/2011 20:02

If you are very pale and neither yellow nor pink you should check out Illamasqua. Their new Skin Base foundation is lovely, the shades start at white and go up gradually from there and each shade level comes in 3 tones, yellow, pink and neutral (a mix of the two, so peachy). It's £25 a tube. If you are in London the flagship store is in Beak St, W1. They are also in Selfridges and have opened up last month in Liverpool too. You can also buy online. It's a new product so you may be able to get samples online too, I'm not sure.

BTW, is your dressing table near a radiator? I ask because your description of the LM and Clinique products separating and smelling funny sound like they have gone off. Sometimes this happens if you keep your make up somewhere too hot. You mascara will also dry out very fast if that's the case.

beatenbyayellowteacup · 05/11/2011 21:42

I use Mac face and body foundation (it's one product) and I love it. It's light and super easy to apply, but at first it might seem a little shiny. After a few minutes I don't notice that anymore though, not sure if its the lighting when I put it on or the product or me not noticing.

Tolalola · 05/11/2011 21:49

I like Clarins Smooth Perfect Foundation. Not too heavy, not orange and skims over lines pretty well!

fitflopqueen · 05/11/2011 22:41

how about www.lookfantastic.com/nuxe-teint-eclat-prodigieux-tinted-moisturiser-01-fair/10556102.html. have just tried a sample as part of an order, wasnt looking for tinted moisturiser but was really impressed by it and have ordered online, you can get a code voucher (MASTERLF) bringing price to £15.30.

polyhymnia · 05/11/2011 22:47

I love Laura Mercier, but I a) can get a good match because I have yellowy/ beigy tones in my skin and b) love the 'dewy' look.

Otherwise, agree the Giorgio Armani one is excellent and love the Becca one best of all. But that might be too dewy for you also.

My other favourites are By Terry tinted moisturiser and their latest Hyaluronic Feace Glow, which they describe as between a foundation and a primer- worth a look if you're near a Space NK, because they aren't quite as 'dewy'.

polyhymnia · 05/11/2011 22:49

PS I get the Armani one from Selfridges or Italy - not quite sure of stockists but hope they are on their site.

Quodlibet · 06/11/2011 12:34

I recommend Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua - like you OP I can't be doing with foundations that take ages to apply, you can slap this stuff on and because it's quite sheer it goes on very easily. Nice glowy result. It's about £25 quid.

ujjayi · 06/11/2011 19:07

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light is fabulous. Bought it after loads of recommendations on here. It makes my skin look luminous and line free (even after last night's bonfire-related celebrations.......which may or may not have involved copious amounts of mulled cider and red wine...).

I have worn Chanel's Vitalumiere for 2 years now but switched to the EL one because, having finally sorted out moisturising issues, I found the Chanel one took ages to dry. The EL Double Wear Light dries quickly without being dry and stays put all day.

travailtotravel · 06/11/2011 19:08

Do you know what I tried? Olay tinted moisturiser. It was £8, and its ruddy marvellous.

stripeybumpinthenight · 06/11/2011 19:11

I bought EL Doublewear (the standard one not light) after reading it recommended on here, and love it. I feel conned out of a few extra years of good skin I could have had if I'd discovered it earlier! it just makes my skin even, clear and glowy, basically the opposite of what it's actually like. It doesn't look heavy on me, I don't use much, more for evenings.

It was an epiphany comparable to my first GhDs Smile
