we both liked boden - trousers are still fine but the tops this season he doesn't like, hes not into sports wear or football tops which alot of his friends wear either.

Have checked out gap, next and h&m and nothing jumped out, the tops all felt a bit thin actually, any where else worth a look? hes careful with his clothes and they can be passed down to his brother so i don't mind spending out providing it washes well.

Debenhams is good. Especially in the sale Smile

moonshine · 05/11/2011 10:05

I buy stuff in M & S, BHS can have some pretty good stuff sometimes & tk mAXX. I actually buy loads in H & M - if you dig deep I think there's some pretty good stuff there and I imagine when/if he becomes more 'fashion conscious' when slightly older that's where I'll continue to head!

TheOriginalNutcracker · 05/11/2011 10:06

Agree with sparkling, Debenhams is great when there is a sale on. I also get things from h&m, Asda and sometimes Tkmax.

overmydeadbody · 05/11/2011 10:14

I was going to say Gap but I see you've already been there.

John Lewis is good for good quality long sleeved tops for layering in the winter, and not expensive. H&M is always worth a good thorough look, I tihnk their trousers are good.

TheGoldRoad · 05/11/2011 10:16

H&M mostly my 9yo DS likes.

Sparklingbrook · 05/11/2011 10:18

My two boys (9 and 12) have discovered 'Fat Face'. Their clothes are quite nice. Quite pricey though.

TheSmallPrint · 05/11/2011 10:57

Fat Face is a nice slim fit for skinny boys but quite expensive as Sparkling said, Primark is quite good for skinny jeans for boys. Debenhams I find better for younger boys.

ggirl · 05/11/2011 11:11

landsend.co.uk

moaninlisa · 05/11/2011 15:25

Joules for fleeces rugby shirts pricey but ebay them on.

M&S is ok but my local one has rubbish stock levels never enough sizes

Agree Debenhams ok

The Bear Grylls range of T shirts from Craghoppers went down well with my DS

Odd boden bit

GAP tshirts the softest ever according to my DS jackets and coats wash and wear well from GAP also

ChasingSquirrels · 05/11/2011 15:28

tesco, asda & sainsbury - but I suspect my kids don't wear the same kind of clothes as yours.

Dee03 · 05/11/2011 15:37

I buy a lot of my ds clothes from sports direct, online...they are 9, 12 and 14...they like the No Fear and Airwalk styles!
I get their skinny jeans from Matalan and Primark or sometimes peacocks...but I think their boys range is crappy lately!

ASuitableGirl · 05/11/2011 15:38

Where is good for trousers for a skinny nearly 8 year old DS. He has one pair of trousers that he likes and will wear but they are becoming very worn and he needs another pair. I am a tesco/sainsburys/asda type shopper but am slightly wondering whether spending a little more might be worth it. Am considering dragging us all yo a local shopping place wuth Sainsburys, Asda, H and M, debenhams abd next tomorrow and staying there until we have some Grin.

Shorts are easier - doesn't matter what age they are as they go down a slightly different amount whereas with trousers it is a little more important.

ASuitableGirl · 05/11/2011 15:39

No Primark here. Or john lewis.

accessorizequeen · 05/11/2011 17:00

Ds1 is nearly 8 and skinny, H&M trousers fit him well. Or you could try Zara.
OP, ds is the same growing out of boden styles. I think the skater styles might be more popular at this age? Occasionally something at joules and I like the scandi brands although £££! Like danafae they do fab Viking tops. Haven't looked at river island or jack wills, abercrombie & fitch but mentioned on here a bit.

ASuitableGirl · 05/11/2011 17:10

Thank you - will try H&M first :)

orienteerer · 05/11/2011 17:10

Zara

Dee03 · 05/11/2011 17:12

Matalan skinnies are nice...priced around £15..Primark are fab, they do skinnies and narrow fit which my ds loves and they're only around £7!! Peacocks sometimes do them but again around £15 and I find the fit isn't as great on my ds as he's got a bum and tummy lol Grin

ASuitableGirl · 05/11/2011 17:21

Will have a look in primark when I am next near one. Could look in matalan and zara but would need a bit more driving around. Have let DS know that tomorrow is trousers day Grin.

He is wearing shorts at the moment that are either 3-4 or 4-5 Hmm

Dee03 · 05/11/2011 17:22

Or eBay! I've picked up a good few pairs off there lately

AVoidkaTheKillerZombies · 05/11/2011 17:24

H&M and Next mainly.

Makkapakkaakkawakka · 05/11/2011 17:50

H&M with a bit of GAP for casual and Zara for smart. I find it so hard to find nice clothes for him and have lost count of the hours I have spent trawling around looking for clothes for him. I am also reluctant to spent a lot of money as he grows so quickly. Over the summer I bought him fantastic shorts in Primark, knee length checked ones which looked fantastic with polo shirts and I often buy him primark jeans too.

accessorizequeen · 05/11/2011 17:51

I like their coloured jeans, they're slim fit and look great on him. He's in 5-6, 8 next month!

akaemmafrost · 05/11/2011 17:56

The Gap for all tops and a couple of pairs of "nice" jeans and combats, also for things like swimming shorts, scarves and hats etc. Ds has long sleeved t-shirts from the Gap from two years ago that still look great, they wash and wear better than any other brand imo.

Every day jeans - Asda, they have a great selection of boys jeans there, slim fit or slouchy and they last for ages. However I would not do Asda for girls clothes, for some reason the jeans don't fit, ever, and the clothes don't stand up to washing more than once.

OriginalPoster · 05/11/2011 18:01

Next? They do slim fit, normal and plus size. I love the way they deliver quickly.

javo · 05/11/2011 18:04

OP - another vote here for John Lewis

Skinny boy trousers - I only buy elasticated (which sometimes still don't fit) or waist adjuster ones - mainly from H&M or M&S. M&S sweatshirt bottoms are great and so are their skinny fit chinos with waist adjusters. I have had to stitch up the sides of jeans to take in the waists though as most places don't seem to put the waist adjusters in jeans
