Fringe advice

I am in the mood for a change to my haircut and need some advice. Don't want to colour as don't want the expense of upkeep. Am considering a fringe...

I have long, wavy hair that I usually don't do anything to as I have a 6 week old and not much time. It can be frizzy but my regime of wash, deep condition, kerastase elixir and messy bun while still wet keeps it looking wavy and nice rather than frizzy and gross.

I have a heart shaped face and a pretty large forehead. (And apparently look very like Danica Mckellar.)

I'm too fat at the moment to go short, and anyway when it's short it needs a lot more work as it goes much more frizzy.

Do you think I'm a contender for a fringe? And if so, do you agree a side swept type would be best? Am hoping to avoid straightening.

Any advice gratefully received!

Do you

I have had a fringe cut in the last couple of times I've had my hair cut - christ knows why because I always regeat it! I get ready in the morning hairdry and straighten it and by the time I've done the school run adn got to work I look like a poodle that's been put in a tumble dryer!

If your hair is naturally frizzy and you are going for low maintenance then a fringe is not going to be your friend!

Mine is generally ok though when I have a (quite long) side sweeping fringe so perhaps that is a good way for you to go?

Pippaandpolly · 04/11/2011 16:58

That's what I'm thinking sweetheart-possibly as long as jaw length. I want something to cover my big forehead!

My fringe has just been cut too short and I look like the village idiot.

Pippaandpolly · 04/11/2011 19:20

MissHonkover that is slightly terrifying!

Get thee a babyliss Big Hair

its the answer to the frizzy girls prayers

it can keep a fringe ij good shape if you spritz with hair spray afterwards

And ARF at MissHonkover. I've been there, there is NOTHING WORSE

countessbabycham · 04/11/2011 19:25

Oh I like the village idiot look.I like to get good value from my fringe cuts and know it'll last a while Grin

countessbabycham · 04/11/2011 19:37

I think for a heart shape face a swept aside fringe is meant to be the most flattering option.

Would you find it gets in the way though I wonder...

MrsSeanBean · 04/11/2011 20:06

A long fringe is the way to go. Suits that hair type (mine is similar), can be made to look longer or shorter somehow, as required, and when fed up with and need another change, takes less growing out.

WeepsInPaleDew · 04/11/2011 21:04

Oooooh, Pippaandpolly!

Not hijacking, honest, but I was just thinking the same thing! I too have a large forehead and slightly unruly hair. I echo cyb's suggestion of the Babyliss big hair, nothing short of miraculous on my barnet! My face is more square than heart-shaped (you lucky thing!)I had a fringe for about 20 years, short/side/sweep etc, etc and grew it out the last few months.

I like it, but when I showed my new colleagues a picture of me with a fringe, they all suggested I got one cut back in, and sharpish. Sad

I did wonder if my non fringe look suited me, but obviously it doesn't. I have an appointment at the hairdresser next Thursday, so it will probably make a comeback. I am a bit scared though, my normal stylist left so I am in the hands of a young funky thing. However, I do love what she's done to the colour, so here goes!

Weepsinpaledew good luck with the new stylist! Mine too is young and cool (bleached bits in hair plus lots of piercings and attitude of being so hip it hurts) but she's lovely and, importantly, cuts my hair how I like it (with her suggestions) rather than giving me crazy hair which would suit her but not me. I love her Grin and am willing to pay her extortionate rates! (Had a bad experience with a stylist who once tried to give me what was essentially her haircut. Have been suspicious of emo hairdressers ever since (especially those with shaved bits of head Confused) but current lovely one has convinced me again that being cool doesn't mean an inability to cut hair for grown ups!)

I think I'm decided then on a long sweepy type fringe. Am off to google images. Thanks for the advice all. (Also off to look up Babyliss Big Hair-had thought it was for volume (which I don't lack, in a 'white girl with an afro' look on particularly humid days) but if it can do smoothing and taming too then I want one...

I have a fat face and a smallish forehead. I now look like Dave Hill from Slade.

bouleverse · 04/11/2011 23:19

Grin MissHonkover.

countessbabycham · 04/11/2011 23:21

I think that sounds lovely MissHonkover. Now where exactly do you go to the hairdressers?...... Grin

MissHonkover · 04/11/2011 23:29

I go to somewhere lovely and stylish, honest guv! It looked great when I left the salon but now I look like one of those women with cuddly toys who writes to Daniel O'Donnell.

countessbabycham · 04/11/2011 23:34

MissHonkover last time I went it was to a reasonably priced place.

I was very glad to come out without a blue rinse and a perm.

Celebrate your fringe in all its shortness Grin
