are they really as warm as people say they are ?. my feet are always cold

Know they are not good/supportive for walking in but that is not a issue Grin

yes, they are cosy.

chismum · 04/11/2011 06:59

They are very warm and very very very ugly. I'm Australian and remember my mum wearing them as slippers (at least 25 years ago) so cannot understand why people think they are at all stylish. But, if, like my mum, you just want to keep your feet warm around the house, go for it!

Helo · 04/11/2011 07:03

They are very warm but you have to buy the proper sheepskin ones (money saving expert has a thread on good alterntatives to branded Uggs which are cheaper but still £80+). They proper sheepskin ones are very supportive.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 04/11/2011 07:06

yes keep your feet toastie and if you want to wear them outside then get the ones with lugg sole - bearpaw do a fab alternative to Ugg. TK Maxx in the UK did them last year for about £50.

I love mine - dont care how ugly folk say they are, when its freezing outside my feet are always nice and warm.

esselle · 04/11/2011 07:11

I love mine. I'm an Aussie and only wear them in the house - they are not stylish at all. They are all about function!!

I too am the queen of icy feet and they kept me toastie all last winter. Just make sure you get proper sheepskin uggs.

FritziGreenEyes · 04/11/2011 07:24

Second the Australian approach of wearing them as slippers around the house only.

twinklespeciallyforlittlegirls · 04/11/2011 07:31

Sheepskin boots are marvellous for keeping your feet warm! Celtic Sheepskin ones are nicely made (better quality than Uggs IME) and a fair bit cheaper than Uggs too, I think about £120 for a 'classic' type pair. I am a big fan of the CS ones because you can put them in the washing machine :) and have not needed to do this yet (oldest pair are on their 4th winter) but they have a service where you can send them back to be resoled for about £35.

TheHumancatapult · 04/11/2011 08:59

Sorry should have made it bit clearer why not worried about supportive or walking in them

I use a wheelchair so no wear and tear on the soles so I really do get my money's worth from them

Though downside is I rediscovered q love of high heels now don't need walk in them ]grin] my bank manger may not agree

Celtic Sheepskin do knee high ones, they would be lovely under a long skirt or over skinny jeans or leggings and would keep you really toasty. They also do "house boots" which look like normal ones but have an indoor sole. If you like the colours of those you could save a few quid :)

NinkyNonker · 06/11/2011 18:15

Super toasty. I have Emus now which are sturdier but just as ugly!

tigercametotea · 06/11/2011 18:23

They are warm but they are not good in rain and are not very hardy. I wear a pair of Merrell Gore-Tex waterproof high cut boots nowadays after my last pair of Uggs broke. They are lined in some really fleecy synthetic fur + Polarfleece, also slip-resistant soles but in my experience still no good on icy roads but at least they are grippy on wet ground and normal walking conditions.

MrsVoltar · 06/11/2011 18:59

Costco do good cheap version of Ugg boots, sheepskin too. They are very very warm.

TheHumancatapult · 06/11/2011 19:15

Tiger

See my above post . If it's icy I'm grounded anyway though wonder if chair makes good sleigh

Waterproof it's ok as I have one of those big rain coats/covers may not look very good but sure keeps me dry

Am leaning towards Celtic sheepskin and Luke couple of the houseboats

But can not do the linger lenth boots unless they unzip/buckle/unlace. As can not get them on as can not push down my legs have mind of their own it seems

Those long ribbony ones they do might be good? Celtic Sheepskin do come up big IME, I went down a size on my second pair, so if you are a 4 for example, buy a 4 and they will be nice and roomy on the legs, or if you want them snugger get a 3. You might need a hand to get them on for a few weeks til you flatten the wool a bit though, they are VERY fluffy when new!

If you get "splash up" in very wet weather do what my mum's friend does and stick your lower legs in a binbag under your raincover, she gets the sort with a tie and fastens them round her knees :)
