i need some winter boots. If i dither much longer, it will be summer before i choose.

i LOVE the dark Clarks Norley boots. but they don't do my size anywhere. So do i...

  1. buy the dark brown Norley half a size too big and wear insoles
Dark Norley
  1. buy the lighter Norley in my size
Light Norley
  1. go for a different pair which are IN A SALE
other boots These come in black or brown.

I've never done a link before so hope this works....

Oh wise women of MN. Make my mind up for me cos i am rubbish and procrastinating and have lost the use of decisive thought. Which boots do we prefer? do i care that the ones i want won't be a perfect fit? Do these things matter when you have an emotional attachment??? Grin

if these are your choices, go for the light norley, black casual boots are a no no....

tethersend · 03/11/2011 21:48

What size are you?

they have some here too.

tethersend · 03/11/2011 21:49

And here

JonahB · 03/11/2011 21:50

cerealqueen - i didn't know that. really? I am very uncool. what about option 3 in brown? there is a brown version.
tether - 3 1/2. I have tried online on all the outlets. one particularly cruel online shop told me that they had my size. I ordered, then they told me that they didn't about a week later. Sadists.

Tether - thanks for the 2 links. oh my, the 2nd link does have my size, but they are charging a premium for it. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay the premium aren't i...

Voucher for £10 off first order

cerealqueen · 03/11/2011 22:12

Just my opinion!! Black boots and jeans don't look as nice as brown boots with jeans (and its a mumsnet style rule isn't it?? Smile ) BUT if you wear a lot of black then just go with what colour works with your wardrobe.
I think the lighter brown will go a bit darker with age anyway or if you put some wax/dubbin on them?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 04/11/2011 15:22

I don't like Pair 3 at all, sorry.
Half a size is a tiny amount and an insole would sort it out, I'm sure, so I don't think you'd suffer from buying them in a too-big size. But I like the lighter Norley ones best and think they're more versatile than dark ? you could wear them with most colour dresses/tights whereas I think you have to be more careful with darker boots.

polyhymnia · 04/11/2011 16:49

Have tried both the Norley ones and IMO the darker ones look far nicer. I don't like the lighter colour very much now, but would also be concerned it would soon get grubby-looking. Not 100% sure about the style at all - looks great in the dark but think leather feels a bit thin.

Don't like the stark 'whiteness' of the 'fur' on No. 3, though that might be just the way it looks online, not in RL.

talkingnonsense · 04/11/2011 16:52

I don't like the light norlwy, in the link anyway they look beige not brown. Beige is not a good look. I think biker type boots look best in dark brown, how do you feel about brown op?

izzybiz · 04/11/2011 16:55

I think the dark Norly are better too, they look dark brown to me, not black, the lighter ones are too 'tan'!

noddyholder · 04/11/2011 16:56

I wear black boots and jeans and I am very stylish thank you Wink

noddyholder · 04/11/2011 16:57

I think the beige colour with jeans is very loose women

FunnysInTheGarden · 04/11/2011 17:07

I like the dark ones and think they would look fine with jeans. Black mum boots and jeans are a no I think but not those.

polyhymnia · 04/11/2011 17:19

The light ones are indeed beige - a mushroomy beige. The ebony ones are a really nice dark brown.

talkingnonsense · 04/11/2011 17:26

Stay away from the beige!

JonahB · 04/11/2011 19:35

i am loving the beige comments. the consensus seems to be the dark Norleys.

polyhymia - that was exactly my concern too - i think the paler ones would get grubby way to quickly

i do have a pair of black casual boots actually. I didn't realise i was committing such a fashion-faux pas Smile

tethersend · 04/11/2011 19:38

Which did you go for in the end?

dexter73 · 04/11/2011 19:38

Kate Moss is a black boot/jeans and she is generally thought of as being quite stylish, but probably ignore Mumsnet rules (thank god!)!

IHeartKingThistle · 04/11/2011 19:56

I have to size down by half a size when I buy from Clarks - don't know if that helps at all!

latrucha · 04/11/2011 20:00

I think the beige ones are hard to wear. Go half a size up.

JonahB · 04/11/2011 21:18

iheart - yes, i had the same issue with Clarks sizes

i actually took Tether's advise and bought the dark norley's. paid slightly more than if i'd bought them from clarks, however, as clarks had told me that it would be at least 2 months before they'd get more stock in, if ever, i spent the extra money.
NO ONE TELL MY DP PLEASE!!! I'm planning on lying blatantly glossing innocently over the whole "how much did they cost?" conversation Grin

Did you not use the voucher?

JonahB · 04/11/2011 21:48

would you like the honest answer? In my eagerness to buy them THEN AND THERE, i logged out of MN before i saw your message TODAY.

I am trying to gloss over my absolute muppetery. But a big and genuine thank you for giving great advice. Unfortunately, its hard to help the terminally stupid. I am quite Blush
