What's the consensus on sequin mini (ish) skirts?

I bought a bronze sequin mini (mid-thigh rather than pelmet) from H&M today (not on website so can't do link - the one currently on website is vile). Was thinking of wearing with oversized black jumper and opaques.

I am 40 and a size 8.......in case that has any bearing :)

What do we think?

I think you should wear it and don't let anyone tell you you're too old.

:o

Thanks WWWY

I feel sure that as long as it is styled right then actually a sequin skirt can be worn by anyone but always good to canvas opinion. I saw another in Zara which was a gorgeous purple-blue but was knee length and looked a bit frumpsville on me.

I love them too - just wish I had somewhere to wear one and could drop this last half stone.

monkeysmama · 02/11/2011 17:49

I just bought the same one. They come up quite big if anyone is ordering on line (when they hit the site) I'm going to wear mine styled similar - probably with a big black roll neck. I'm 35 and a size 12 fwiw.

josephinebonaparte · 02/11/2011 18:21

December wear only imo.

Rocky Horrow Show
Barbie
3 year old girls

monkeysmama - have you bought one which is really close fitting? I tried on and bought a size Small which was quite a relaxed fit on me. I thought perhaps it was more forgiving in a more relaxed fit?

josephinebonaparte - I always thought so too but there are loads of metallics around this season - knitwear, skirts and trousers.

wahwahwah - I think you'll find it's sequin hot pants for Rocky Horror Wink

I don't have a DD but if I did she certainly wouldn't be wearing sequin minis aged 3.

What'd I tell ya? Smile

monkeysmama · 02/11/2011 19:53

It's a relaxed fit on me too. I got an M and am a 12.

I do have a 3yo dd and there's no way she wears sequins or Barbie!

Bonsoir · 03/11/2011 09:45

I've got a gold bead/sequin skirt from Zara that I wear with either a white blouse or a black roll neck poncho, and tights and flat black sued knee high boots. I'm 45 and think it looks great!

Karbea · 03/11/2011 09:51

hello,

i have one too (im 37), ive not worn it yet, as not 100% sure what to put it with. Are you wearing it in the day as well as eve's?

josephinebonaparte · 03/11/2011 09:52

I still think all the metallics will be on the sale rail in January. And sequined skirts are at the extreme end of metallic.

FritziGreenEyes · 03/11/2011 10:30

Go for it! Will look fab dressed down even after December!

notyummy · 03/11/2011 11:00

I like them! I have two reasons for not indulging in one personally - I am tall (5ft 10) and a lot of them are far too short on me, and straight into the Pretty Woman territory. And I am relatively slim (10) but pear shaped, so I am wary of drawing too much attention to my bottom half...or adding a layer of material (i.e sequins) where I don't want any volume. If I was slightly shorter or differently shaped then I would likely get one. Probably would spend too much as not sure how long they will last - but at H and M or Zara prices I would def invest!

monkeysmama · 03/11/2011 14:22

I think they may well be on the sale rails soon but that's not necessarily a sign of how good or otherwise they look. Sadly many women are put off wearing things that can be stylish and flattering because they're a bit different.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 03/11/2011 15:34

Exactly - they're just a fun item, not meant to be a dull investment piece.

chinateacup · 03/11/2011 15:57

Sounds great I think I need one too Smile

SeeLyon · 03/11/2011 16:39

i had a BRILLIANT one from lt collection about 2 years ago. really expensive looking.

everyone on ehre went yuk, then saw the pic and LOVED, you occasioanlly find them on ebay

ujjayi · 03/11/2011 17:34

I have decided that I love it and will be wearing it proudly :)

Karbea - yes I reckon this one could be worn for daywear if with flats, opaques and oversized knit. The sequins are very dull - not at all glittery mega-shiny and a good amount of the cloth beneath shows through.

Yes metallics will be on sale rail come January. However, think about how much we spend on summer clothes in the hope that we may get more than a month's wear out of them?

Wear it baby! If you've got the legs (which I'm sure you have at a size 8) then it'll look fab.
