Oil cleansing method - what do you do on the days in between?

I've been doing the oil cleansing method for a couple of months now, quite happy with it, my skin looks ok. However, I wear make up every day but I don't want to do the OCM everyday. If I have done the OCM the night before I just use water to wash my face in the morning but I was just wondering what I should use to take my make up in the evenings? Just a normal cleanser or will that undo the good work of OCM?

I do it each morning and either just sleep in my make up or wipe off with water.

I'm not too keen on leaving make up on as it gives me spots if I don't take it off properly.

I do the ocm every night. However, i only use caster oil three times a week with very warm water. On the other days i remove my make up by cleansing with sweet almond oil and removing it with warm water and flannel not anywhere near as hot as on my caster oil nights. Or i remove the sweet almond oil with damp cotton wool pads.

Just oil on its own is a good make up remover so I just use that and flannel off - you don't need a to use separate cleanser unless you particularly want to.

so, those of you who use OCM - what oils do you mix with castor oil? do you use the caster oil less often because it's more drying?
I've been doing 1/4 Caster with 3/4 almond oil, every other night (I use cetaphil cleanser when in the shower) and it's really rather nice, but I don't actually have a clue what I should be doing. I use lots of cotton wool then do a lot of splashing and wipe with a towel... what do people actually do?

Sorry for Hijack, OP!

blackcurrants - I use rice bran oil (from the oil section at supermarkets, it's usually about £1.80 for a largeish bottle). It's nice and non-greasy but doesn't feel as drying as some of the other oils do. If I'm feeling flush I use pure argan oil which is a bit whiffy but feels wonderful.

I don't use castor oil at all as I didn't like the feel of it.

When doing OCM I smear the oil all over face and neck and rub in. Then put warm/hot water on a muslin or (strong) kitchen roll and wipe off - repeat the rinsing two or three times. Then dry face and hands with bit of clean kitchen roll. If you're using a muslin or flannel these need to be washed properly at least every couple of days as they get greasy and manky.

Oh and I put a few drops of tea tree oil in the rice bran oil to try and keep germs at bay.

I just use olive oil massage it in then wipe off with steaming hot flannel.

thank you ladies, it sounds like how you use Lush's "ultra Bland" which did wonders for my skin, but I would love a cheaper way of doing it. I will faff about explore my options later. I have about a bazillion flannels but can't find any of them - time to dig 'em out, I think.

WanderingSheep · 02/11/2011 13:48

I just use a small amount of castor oil with extra virgin olive oil but I find that it makes my hair greasy if I do it everyday (plus it's a bit of a faff). I'll probably just use a normal cleanser or make up wipes every other day then and see how my skin feels.

Thanks for your replies Smile
