Flat shoes and wide-leg trousers

Have a great pair of wide-leg black trousers that are smart enough for an evening out, but I never know what shoes to wear with them. They need to be flat (my DH is shorter than me and a bit sensitive on the subject) plus I feel like trannie in heels anyway! I don't like the look of ballet pumps, but I haven't really seen a good alternative. Advice please?

How about some of those velvet or leather and ribbon plimsolls that boden and joules sometimes do?

niminypiminy · 31/10/2011 22:23

Velvet slippers, the 'gentleman's slipper' kind that are fairly shoe-like, are the way to go.

Can you wear a small heel? I got these topshop jupiter to go with wide leg trousers, but would look a bit silly with black trousers.
I always think that if you're going to wear flats with wide leg trousers then they should be more streamlined in shape (ideally pointed toe), have some detailing or be metallic/patent material. But that's just my own private musings!
I'll have a look and try and find some examples.

Sorry forgot to say how tall are you and where's the waistband on the trousers?

rc8911 · 31/10/2011 22:56

Ooh I like these too casual?
bit boring?
in silver
sparkles!
black and gold
too cutesy?
smart brogue
Am aware that none of these may fit the bill as inner shoe monster has taken over!

I like the black and gold ones above but am not into the brogue look at all. Agree with rc8911 that flats with wide trews ought to be pointy and have some kind of metallic detail. Also, animal print might look quite good.

milkmoustache · 03/11/2011 16:00

Have only just checked back - thanks for all your input! rc I am 5 8 and the waistband is just a regular one, at my natural waist. I think pointy is the way to go but sadly my feet are on the large and wide side so ASOS brogues are out for me. Not sure about going for Boden plimsolls - maybe I just need to be open-minded and give em a whirl...

I dont agree about flat pointy shoes with wide leggedy trews

I know you said no to ballet flats but a black sequinned pair would be lovely with black trousers, very chic

theres no place like home

I bought these from Dune in black yesterday with intention of wearing with skinnies and wide leg trousers (plus dresses). They are gorgeously soft leather. Look expensive and best of all make my huge wide feet look dainty and delicate :)
