I'm 47 and really need to find a foundation that gives good coverage.Have always got away with using cheap ones but I now find that they just dont last /stay put anymore. They dont really 'cover' any more- after about an hour its like I have no make-up on. Can anyone recommend one that gives really good coverage? I am prepared to spend a good bit more but not like £40/50 a tube. I need something for everyday-am never without my face on! Thanks to anyone who can help!

I have Estee Lauder Doublewear as my foundation with good coverage but decided it was more than I wanted for everyday and, after trying loads, settled on Nivea tinted moisturiser which IMO gives more coverage than many foundations.

Both are good. Nivea is under a fiver so worth a try and if it's too light Doublewear is somewhere in the £20s I think.

Vichy dermablend is really good, and about £15 a tube. You can buy it in Boots. Full coverage, excellent lasting power, and you only need the tiniest amount.

You could also try a make up primer which goes on after moisturiser but before foundation. I'm your age too and it makes a difference.

Clarins, go to the Clarins counter. it lasts ages, but you'll need advice on coverage for your skin type. I am poor, but i can't live without my Clarins, cos a tube lasts about 6 months and costs £20

I tried going for a cheaper one recently but after a week of looking chalky and feeling like the make up was just 'sat' on my face I've gone back to Bobbi Brown. I think it's called 'natural finish long lasting'. I love it! I have horrible skin but this covers all my blotches and blemishes without making me look overly made up. Think it cost about £30 but seems to last ages.

Another fan of estee lauder double wear - but at £34 (I think!) I couldn't justify it for everyday use. I have switched to Rimmel double wear or long lasting wear and I've found it the best of the cheaper range.

I second using a primer too - I got a cheap benefit primer off ebay and it really made a difference.

Hope you find a solution!

Silly, thanks for tips, but dont know much about 'primer'. Are these creams or what? Are they available at make-up stands next to make-up or what?

I second rimmel too

I don't really know alot about primers either Im afraid!

The benefit one was like a pink liquid (think really runny foundation!) and I put it on before foundation and gave it a minute to sink it. It seemed to make my foundation last longer, gave a dewy sort of effect and helped even my skin tone. Benefit is the only one I've ever used though so i don't know if its better or worse than the others - but it has made using cheaper foundation much more bearable for me :)

I have spent months trying to find the right moisturiser and foundation....tried expensive ones (which i am mostly allergic too) and cheap ones and i have finally found the perfect ones.

I have slightly dry skin and now use L'oreal primer (forgot the proper name) small round jar that is found amongst all the make-up and i love Rimmels stay matt foundation..it was only about £6 and it is brill for my skin so definately worth a try.

Oh and the moisturiser i love the most is Oil of Ulay 7 in 1.

Good Luck!

Tried Max Factor Age Elixir 2 in 1 foundation. At £12.99 it's not too expensive. Has lovely coverage. Not heavy and SPF 15 .

I really like this. You only need a little dab!
