How much work is a fringe?

I do nothing with my hair besides brushing it and shoving it into a pony tail. It is shoulder length, brown and sort of wavy. Not straight, not curly just wavy and kind of messy looking.

I have been tempted to get a fringe - not a full fringe more like:

How hard to maintain would it be?

I wash my hair every evening so I am not sure how practical a fringe would be as I don't have time in a morning to swap to washing my hair then.

Not too bad I didn't find, and it did 'funk' up my hair which sounds a lot like yours. I can't be doing with a side, sweeping fringe as it gets in my eyes and takes styling. A full finge was ok, if it looked a little out of shape or greasy in the morning I would just wash (or wetten) my fringe over the sink and blowdry it with a round brush.

I have a little wave near the roots and for some reason the kink got stronger in my 30s and it meant my fringe got such hard work that I grew it out! I wear my hair down, use anti frizz/3 day straight stuff (I have voluminous hair rather than curly) and straighten it to calm it down but I only wash it about every 3 days.

Won't work if you have a cow-lick or if your hair is very fine.

I needed to style my side sweeping-ish fringe for the first few months, but now either a) I'm past caring and don't notice, or b) it's got used to being there and sorts itself out. I just wash and go and give it a trim every now and then.

Hmmm my hair is quite fine but there is a lot of it. I am mostly worried about it getting greasy and looking awful!

Why don't you start by straightening it and wear it down...

Personally I don't see the point of long hair if you always tie it up!

I find a fringe= spotty forehead, can you maybe get some layers instead to provide definition around your face. Also like random suggested try wearing it down.

blobtobetter · 30/10/2011 11:44

I am going to try curling it - just with a hair band and setting lotion so I can do in on a night and then brush it out in the morning.

I don't like my hair super straight as I have a round face and chubby cheeks!!

Fringes are pretty handy if they suit you. Like Ninkynonker said it's dead easy to spruce up your appearance quickly by just 'doing' your fringe . Like you Blob I have a fair amount of fine hair and once it's done it looks good all day unless it rains.

Cheeseandseveredfingersarnie · 30/10/2011 13:25

im just growing out a fringe but keep wanting to cut it again!
i have very fine hair too but apart from odd something about mary days it was fine.
