Struggling with my new dress-down Friday - help me with shoes!

My new job involves a day at Uni on a Friday - sounds daft but I am not used to dressing down for work. In the week I wear trouser suit/smart dress with high heels or sometimes flat ballet pumps.

So on a Friday I am wearing leggings with new boots from Clarks which I love (thanks MN); I also want to wear my new Gap jeans (thanks again MN!) but what shoes do I wear?

I have lots of high heels that I wear to Mon-Thurs work, but they are not suitable with jeans. I don't want to wear walking boots (too clumpy) and am now out of options. I don't really want to buy another pair of boots either. Can I wear Converse-style lace-up pumps? DD (10yo) says no. I am in my 40s btw in case that helps.

Anyone got any great thoughts?

Ballet flats? Brogues like these?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 29/10/2011 08:31

I've got some black loafers, or merrel trainers which I wear with jeans. Or brown knee high boots.

Cannot see what is wrong with the converse myself!

Heeled loafers

Oooh like those brogues cupoftea!

My problem with ballet flats is that I will get really cold feet! OK in summer but not in winter (uni sooo cold last week I have had to buy a big snuggly hoody to wear!).

Liking those flyers too tho suspect they may not meet with DD's approval (I don't do just what she says but the problem is she is so often right about stuff.)

Love these, although not sure if they fit the brief of being warm.

It's Uni....you can wear anything you want. Converse would be fine.

I'm older than you and doing a PhD at uni. You can wear exactly what you like. I often wear Comverse type shoes with jeans when not in boots. V comfortable and have been admired.

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 29/10/2011 15:54

Something like this? Could be dressed up or down.

Clary · 29/10/2011 16:38

Liking those, weevils, but they need to be flat. Has to be something I can also wear for bumbling round with the kids on a Saturday - when not wearing walking boots cos we're in the mud, I tend to be a bit stumped.

Glad to hear Converse would be OK - anyone seen a nice cheap lookalike pair? (I'm a poor student Grin)
