Black tie event - heeeellp

We are having a black tie event this year in my workplace. Needless to say everyone who is anyone is going and people have been talking about it for ages. Me , I stuck
My head in the sand mumbled about having 'plenty in my wardrobe' and bungled on. Problem is the even is 3 weeks away now. I checked my wardrobe. It s not a pandora s box I had imagined.
So basically I have 2 options - one is a nude/ fawn silk halterneck dress. It s midi length.
I am pale ( will wear tan but not too much) with blond (highlighted ) long ish hair. I have yukky gold shoes that would be ok with it but am thinking if I got new nice shoes and bag it might work. Only thing is the silk is very very unforgiving and basically shows every bump and lump - I m slim but shapeless and not very toned. Have no boobs (34 a - and that s being generous) and wonder do you need a decent cleavage to carry off the halterneck - there s a low back so I couldn't wear bra underneath.
Option 2 is a knee length burger et michaelson dress - it s beaded and sparkly cream coloured with black and sliver beading - again I need shoes and bag to match.
So wise fashionistas
Should I go for dress 1 or 2. Is it ok to wear knee length ... Everyone seems to be talking about full length gowns.
If I wear dress a I want fabbbbulous shoes ( cos it s ao simple ) can anyone care to suggest ( budget up to 200 probably, ideally including bag)
If I go for dress 2 I need nice heels - I m thinking black but they dint need to be that amazing as the dress is busy enough.
What do you think and any suggestions gratefully received.
Sorry this is so long thanks for reading

cant advise you on the shoes as am totally hopeless at looking for stuff myself

but can say that it is fine to wear knee length to black tie do,me & dh went to one at his work last year,I wore a black knee length dress with fab sparkly silver shoes & clutch & he wore a lounge suit as he did not want to waste spend money on formal hire, lots of others had similar on but there were those in ball gowns but I would have felt ridiculous in one, really uncomfortable so I wore what I wanted

hopwe someone can help with the shoes

thanks!
Like you I think I would feel silly in a fully length full on ball gown - I do love my clothes mind butI dont have a full length gown in my wardrobe! It s not really my style at all.
Was hoping the 'cocktail' dress look would work ok.... but then dont want to be underdressed or look like I m going 'clubbing' when everyone is suited and booted! Need a bit of reassurance that I wont look totally silly.

cocktail dress is fine, thats what I wore,I did have a full length dress in the wardrobe, very elegant & perfect for a ball but I just could never bring myself to wear it so it went on ebay for a song

as long as your dh does not get tiddlied, get up on the dance floor & start pogoing like mine did with a couple of others then have to be shoved into the back of a taxi along with his drunk boss & his wife to be entertained all the way home listening to the pair of them talking shite :o
