Can I return faulty boots?

I bought some boots from Aldo before last Xmas which cost about £150. The zip has broken on them. I know I'm way past the 28 day returns deadline but do you think I'll be able to return them? My nearest store is an hour away so I need to get an idea before heading off there.

Hmm. How much have you worn them? If they still look fairly fresh in every other respect and you've only worn them a few times you could attempt to argue that thy are not fit for purpose but if they are looking fairly well-loved and you've had them for almost a year might not get away with it!

Have you taken them to a cobbler to see how much a replacement zip would be?

Shock They're a year old. Take them to a cobbler and have them fix the zip. They're not faulty, they're worn.

I doubt it, they are a year old so just wear and tear.

I returned a pair to house of fraser as heel on one boot had come loose and wiggled as I walked. I'd had them for nearly a year but only worn them a couple of times so sole etc. looked new. They exchanged them without a problem, as they had the same ones instore.

Call them they may offer you a repair, Debenhams does. To replace a zip on a knee high boot is expensive at around £35

I think it's definitely worth trying to take them back - you might expect the zip to break on boots from New Look, but not these at £150

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have worn them a bit, but they are definitely winter boots (as opposed to Autumn/Spring ones) so I haven't had a year's worth of wear out of them IYSWIM.

As Lucymr says I'd expect a cheapo pair to break after this time but not ones for this amount (although I know they aren't what many of you would call expensive!!)
I have other boots which are similar price wise (Nine West) which are still going strong after many years which is why I feel a little hard done by with these!
I haven't looked into how much a cobbler would charge if they can be repaired. After your replies maybe I should just bite the bullet and take the £35 or so on the chin.
