Wedding Dress Shortlist

ahhyesiseeyouvepooedonyourfoot · 27/10/2011 11:50

OK having sent my wedding dress query out into the ether had some amazingly beautiful dresses linked to moi..so now I have an obsenely large shortlist...a longlist if you will...

My stats are 34H - 34"waist - larger hips, can't remember stats but I fit into a 12/14 and I'm 5'3

love this but scared as it's made to measure my figure will have changed by the wedding

same concern

am I too breasty to pull this off?

love love love - but will I look hobbity and short due to amount of ruqued (sp) fabric?

again love but too low methinks?

adore, but if you zoom in it looks either slightly oddly made or photoshopped along the side, anyone had any experience with the company?

beautiful, but is it the boring option?

will the high neck make me look all blousy and matronly?

summons teth and all from the skies where you are all on your fashionably tailored broomsticks in honour of halloween

First one is gorgeous & will suit curvy figure.

Others think just not so flattering/fab looking.

Six looks cheaply made, like you thought.

BunnyLebowski · 27/10/2011 11:59
  1. Love the dress and think it would really flatter your figure. However I had a disastrous experience with that company earlier this year so personally would be wary.
  1. Good length for you but a fairly drab dress. Plus the waistband looks like it's made from seaweed. And obviously same company as before. And it's called 'Mother of the Bride'.
  1. Definitely only for the Keira Knightley types. Would look terrible with big boobs.
  1. The dress du jour on S&B. Personally I don't see what all the fuss is about but maybe it does miraculous things once on.
  1. Think a maxi would swamp you.
  1. Like a bad prom dress. The darts look terrible and the back is really cheap looking.
  1. Safe but yes, boring. And a bit officey.
  1. Don't think it would flatter the boobs at all.
DrunkenDaisy · 27/10/2011 12:02

I like number 1 and number 4 the best.

twinklytroll · 27/10/2011 12:04

First one

ahhyesiseeyouvepooedonyourfoot · 27/10/2011 12:28

I'm leaning towards to first one two but SO scared of changing shape/getting measurements wrong as most of them are non returnable! forgot to link to this one, faux pippa

jesus christ - I'm leaning towards the first one too Blush

loserface · 27/10/2011 12:38

the last one you just linked is very pippa middleton, i like it. Also love the first one and the 4th

LydiaWickham · 27/10/2011 12:39

Well, the verity dress from Phase 8 is gorgeous on, I'm 5' and looked fabulous in it - it does wonders. Can you go try it?

The first dress is gorgeous, but I've not heard anything from that company.

NewChoos · 27/10/2011 12:45

I love the 1st dress and the last. Worth trying the coast dress on :)

ahhyesiseeyouvepooedonyourfoot · 27/10/2011 16:00

Yes think I'll go to Coast and Phase 8 and try them both and if I'm still meh will try and find some reviews of the 'courtesan' company and see what their rep is. What was your bad experience BunnyLeboski? (great name btw)

afishcalledmummy · 27/10/2011 16:28

I know it's your shortlist, but you posting about your figure made me think that you'd really suit a galaxy style dress - have you thought of something like that? There's a new Karen Millen one on ebay here and I think it'd suit your shape marvellously!

I wore a similar one (frantically googling) on my wedding day as was about the same stats as you and only slightly taller - it looked, imho, amazing!

ChooChooWowWow · 27/10/2011 16:32

Numbers 1 and 4 for me. I think 1 would look fab on your figure.

ahhyesiseeyouvepooedonyourfoot · 27/10/2011 16:51

Do love the galaxy shape but haven't found one formal enough that doesn't look officey iyswim - think you'd need to be tanned to pull of the colours of the linked one and not the slightly translucent complexion I sport!

from the pics no 1 is my favourite. would also try on verity, coast and pippa ones as they all look lovely too

can you try no 1 before you buy? if not, i would avoid as you really need to see dress on before final decision

fedupofnamechanging · 27/10/2011 19:56

Numbers 1 and 4 without a doubt. Both absolutely beautiful.

stripeybumpinthenight · 27/10/2011 20:00

1 - beautiful

2 - meh

3 - nah, you have to be Kiera, plus not as man-friendly as t'others

4 - lovely, everyone on here loves it

stripeybumpinthenight · 27/10/2011 20:04

5 - wow, my fave

6 - looks cheapo nasty

7 - nice dress but not v special

8 - not v interesting

You have to try them all on and go for the one that makes you feel like a princess!

Cutelittlecatlover · 27/10/2011 21:39

Number 1 is gorgeous Smile

FellatioNelson · 28/10/2011 04:56

No. 1 is lovely.

No.2 is boring.

No. 3 yes you are too breasty. Only an human ironing board like KK can wear that stuff.

No. 4 BEEOOOTIFUL and no, not hobbity.

No. 5 Lovely, but yes, prolly too low. OK for an evening gown if you are feeling devil-may-care, but a bit too much of an eyeful for a wedding.

No. 6 I like the style, but if it is not well cut and well made it will look v.tacky.

No. 7 That is not a wedding dress. Not at all. It's a sexy office dress. And if you must have red, you need a deep ruby or crimson or a burnished shade. Bright scarlet will look a bit cheap IMHO. Or a bit like a Mrs Christmas.

No. 8 Hmm. I usually love boat/slash necks and they can be quite flattering on big chests, but this one seems a bit too high and a bit too matronly.

pink4ever · 28/10/2011 09:29

Definately number 1 or the verity dress. I am going to go and try the verity on as am looking for a dress for xmas nights out and cannot find a thing I like. If I look like a fat sausage in it will be most disapointedAngry

Trills · 28/10/2011 09:40

OK then - let's see.

I'm not S&B goddess but I did recently look at wedding dresses online with a friend and in the end she bought one that I hadn't seen, but it was quite similar to the one that I chose. So there are my shopping credentials.

1 - It's beautiful but I'd be wary of anything bearing the word "Hepburn", because it always suggests that you should be Hepburn-shaped to wear it. Unless the company just use random names with no concern as to what they actually mean.

2 - Pretty, looks a bit like a young girl going to first communion or something

3 - Bit weirdy shapeless, sack-like for people who like to wear sacks and say "I am so skinny I can wear a sack"

4 - Everyone loves a Verity dress, but it's been over MN so much that I'd be worried that there would be 5 of them

5 - Very nice and simple, but probably too low for 34Hs unless you wear something under it

6 - Love that, but bra?

7 - Nice but you could nearly wear that to an office

8 - Beautiful, and the most weddingy of the lot, but low back = bra problem, and high neck on big boobs might not be very flattering

Trills · 28/10/2011 09:41

Oh I like the cowl neck "faux pippa" very much - nice neckline but not too low.
