I have some bobbi brown brushes to get rid of but I am sure I read ages ago that you can't sell anything to do with cosmetics that has been used before?

I've sold slightly used cosmetics on Ebay - skin & bodycare. I even sold a pot of Eve Lom cleanser that I'd taken a fingerful out! I wouldn't buy used cosmetics but I gave very honest descriptions and people were happy to buy them off me!
I can't think that used cosmetic brushes would be any worse especially as they could rinse them with milton.

QuinnFabray · 25/10/2011 16:09

I've sold used make up before. eBay is a bit funny about this, and you have to be careful not to use the word "used", but say that it's been opened and tested hygenically, or something like that. So, I don't know where they stand on make up brushes. I don't think it's horrible though. If you have your make up done by a professional make up artist, the brushes will have been used on other people before you. Just cleaned really well in between.

Thomcat · 25/10/2011 16:11

So was your make up properly used or had you just opened it, tested it not liked it and then sold it?

I can't imagine ever thinking, ohhhh I'll sell this old brush, I'd just chuck it but then I would never think to buy stuff like that 2nd hand.

QuinnFabray · 25/10/2011 16:19

Generally, it was just opened, and used no more than 2 or 3 times. As long as your honest in your description, I think it's fine. I wouldn't sell make up that's been used more than a couple of times.

You see my point about Make Up Artists using their brushes on many different people though? If you look at it like that, it's not minging. As long as they're cleaned really well, and you're selling them honestly. Good make up brushes last for years and years, so they should still be in good condition, and ones like Bobbi Brown cost a bomb new.

QuinnFabray · 25/10/2011 16:20

you're not your

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 16:22

Hmmm i think you could (people will buy anything) but I don't know why you'd want to sell them and I dread to think of the people who'd buy them. Is it some kind of fetish thing?

Thomcat · 25/10/2011 16:24

Using a brush from a make up artist is ok I guess yes but then their brushes are their tools, their trade, they keep them clean etc.
Buying a brush from someone that you don't know, that could have kept it near a loo, with god know what hygiene and skin conditions and god knows how long they had owned it before selling it - Sorry but nooooo. each to their own but not for me.

gregssausageroll · 25/10/2011 16:24

Firstly, I am totally offended moondog at your first comments. How low can you go? Never as low as the manners experessed to me in your post.

I listed my brushes and I got a "would you consider a BIN" to which I said yes. I have now sold 4 used (but cleaned) Bobbi Brown brushes for just over £20.

What? Fetish? How about a young girl training to be a make up artist, and looking for cheap but good quality brushes?!

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 16:29

Takes all sorts I guess.

I can't imagine anyone I know wanting to buy used makeup brushes, even for training purposes. But as I said, it takes all sorts.

QuinnFabray · 25/10/2011 16:30

Well, I tend to check out a sellers profile and feedback and get a good indication of whether I can trust their description or not, and work out whether I would want to buy something used from them. The same could be said for used baby equipment, or anything. And then when the used brushes arrived, I would thoroughly disinfect them myself.

QuinnFabray · 25/10/2011 16:32

But, the brushes used on you by the Make Up Artist on your wedding day, for example, would have been used on many many other people before hand. I don't see why people are so queasy about this, to be honest.

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 16:34

Quinn that is a fair point, instant corrected.

Still wouldn't buy them for myself though for everyday.

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 16:35

I stand not instant. Bloody iPad, sorry.

QuinnFabray · 25/10/2011 16:44

Fair enough :) I'm not sure I would either, for personal use, but if I was totally skint, I might consider it. I bought a second hand pushchair from eBay, which for all I know was puked and poo'd on, yet I still put my baby in it, and so many people buy or borrow second hand stuff for their beloved babies.

gregssausageroll · 25/10/2011 16:48

Thanks Quinn - the orange girls at the make up counters would be the same.
