This is only tenuously linked to S&B but couldn't take the heat of AIBU Wink

And in a 2nd disclaimer I know I'm an ungrateful bitch.

So - some friends have clubbed together and bought me a wardrobe consultation with a personal stylist for my birthday. Initially I felt a bit miffed as I take care with my appearance and don't have trouble putting outfits together and accessorising them etc. I've got over myself now BUT the idea of a stranger coming and poking through my stuff and telling me to keep, what to chuck and what to buy fills me with horror. The thing is I have looked on the stylist's website and I think they have spent £150 on this voucher. I would have loved virtually any other sort of voucher - a facial or skincare consultation would be fab as I have only got crappy Superdrug stuff, or cosmetics makeover as I worship make up and love experimenting with new stuff. Do you think I should ask if the stylist might give a refund? It would be very rude of me I know and I don't want to upset my friends but I just can't stand the thought of a stranger coming to my home and going through my stuff and there are so many other things I'd love.

tbh, I would challenge the stylist for a refund. Just say this is not your thing and you want a refund. I am sure there are distance selling regs which are on your side.. unless they bought a groupon voucher then you're stuffed.

Just say it is not something you would enjoy and you are well within your legal right to ask for a refund.

Try it - may not be worth the grief for her to argue with you.

Oh really - Im not as clear as I should be on statutory rights for the type of thing. A refund would just be so much better as I fear I will let time slide and never get round to doing the shopping trip either. Even if my friends got their money back and kept it to punish my ingratitude I'd see it as a result.

Speak to citizens advice, they will tell you your rights. Make sure you know how it was bought first though.. :)

... or make her earn her money by getting her to do the January sales with you? That's the time I'd actually quite like a personal shopper - if I knew I had a couple of hundred quid to spend and wanted to buy some good-quality anchor pieces, but didn't want to get distracted by the sparkly tops.

Although I'd want to see her in person/on her website first. The last personal stylist I encountered went quite heavily on the NYDJ jeans.

January sales is a really good thought actually. I would like a new coat but can't afford one now do maybe a trawl round shops then might be worth it. It is a 3 hour shopping service mind you so would have to think of something else too. Maybe she'd be up for spending half the time on lunch Wink
