My Phase Eight Verity Dress (in oyster) is too big for me *sob*

....it's the most flattering dress in the world and I adore it but after trying it on for the 5th time I must concede it's far too big for me. Im a 16 and bought an 18 as its all I could get my hands on.

So anyway, before I ebay is there somewhere on MN I can advertise it for sale? As its a MN favourite dress I thought Id try here before ebay.

Here it is here

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 13:22

Can't you just take it to a dressmaker and have it altered?

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 13:27

TBH its such a delicate fabric Id be terrified it would ruin it

Re: sizing, if you were a 12 on top and 10 bottom, what size would you go for?

Curiousmama · 13/10/2011 13:32

Love the standby dress too.

sammyjayne · 13/10/2011 13:32

Oh I posted about this the other day! I wasn't sure whether at size 16 I would be too big to carry it off but the concensus here is no! I am a good 16 on the bottom though and a probably a large 14 on the top half. Do you think a 16 will fit me then? I wanted the oyster one but it has been out of stock in 16 ever since. Now the Cognac has come out and I am thinking maybe that is a better colour for a winter wedding? I am not sure what colour shoes to go with Cognac though?

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 13:40

Sazza I would think a 12, they are quite generously cut.

Sammy Id try nude shoes with the cognac maybe?

Curious thanks, I thought the red standby dress was less "weddingy" iyswim, but my hand has been forced : (

OP posts:
SazZaVoom · 13/10/2011 13:49

Gilly - would that not mean I would need a 10 if they are generous Confused

Sorry if I am being a numpty Blush

BTW, i think the red or cognac would work well as a wedding outfit, and probably more scope for re-use

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 14:03

Sazza Sorry yes -doh!

The red and cognac are just not my colours at all. WIll stick with my standby dress above and try to ebay the oyster verity. THanks all!

LOL Gilly - thanks

I have just ordered it, googled discount codes and got 20% off with P8VCAPP which should work until the end of October. Hope this helps someone Smile

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 14:16

sazza dont know if its your bag or not, but I was going to wear these sandals in leopard print with the oyster dress but reckon the nude would look perfect with yours... here

OP posts:
SazZaVoom · 13/10/2011 14:20

Oooh, they are lovely, but sadly out of stock in my size Sad. I do have some nude shoes and some black sandals which i think would work if i was doing day or evening.

sammyjayne · 13/10/2011 14:35

SazZa - Thanks so much - I ahve just ordered it and got 20% off! That is a bargain! I deliberated about whether I could spend £110 on a dress, even though DH said just to buy it! With the discount off its only £90 including postage so I feel much better now! Might have a shoe budget.

Next question for you all as I am a novice at this dressing up malarky! The wedding is in a marquee in Nov - supposedly heated but what can I cover up with if I am freezing?

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 14:39

little faux fur jackets are v cute and there are loads in the shops. Perfect for winter weddings. TK Maxx always have plenty too

Gilly, I bought one of these recently after months of lusting after it but not being able to find one in my size. I bought one second hand on ebay and I bought it true to my size (10) and it also turns out to be massively too big. I have opted to get a dressmaker to mend it and it is now totally perfect! Fits far better than an 8 would because it is totally adjusted to my proportions. I'd recommend getting your altered.

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 18:04

Hmmm.....

OP posts:
Geordieminx · 13/10/2011 18:11

Get it altered! a decent dress maker will make it fit perfectly, probably for less than £20

DelGirl · 13/10/2011 18:11

lovely dress, how much?

Gillybobs · 13/10/2011 19:51

There is a used one on ebay already at £68 (sale ends tomorrow) Im waiting to see how that goes before listing mine

ruby, yep it is fairly long thats true, Im 5 7 and it was just below knee length on me.

So, there isnt a place on MN to specifically sell stuff then? Not sure why but I thought there was?
