Has anyone heard of this, or bought a pack? Genie bra It looks good, but is it one of those products that you buy and then think "what a waste of money".

I haven't got one, but I read about them yesterday and decided I need one and must have one as soon as Tesco start selling them .

CeliaFate · 13/10/2011 09:23

Me too Grin. They're selling them on the website, £40 for a pack of 3 which I thought was reasonable enough if they're crap I can add them to my drawer full of crap bras it won't matter too much.

I saw this on TV last week. Not sure. I am of large nork and I'd hate to look like I didn't have enough support or the one boob look.

HouseOfBamboo · 13/10/2011 22:21

I'd be interested to hear any feedback - they look just like an ordinary crop top to me Confused

But the fact that you can put inserts in them for extra nipple coverage and lift is good I suppose. Not keen on the thick shoulder straps but like the thick band around the ribs.

Annoying that you have to buy them in threes, I'd prefer to just try one to see.

Having said that if they really are new and different then hurrah, I hate conventional nylony bras.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 13/10/2011 22:33

Well, I wouldn't relinquish my undersides for anyone. They're probably fine if you need is nipple camouflage, but I can't believe they give anything like decent support or shape.

1gglePiggle · 13/10/2011 22:37

They look just like my breastfeeding bras and the sort of things advertised in the Peoples Friend alongside the farah slacks and support shoes!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 13/10/2011 22:49

Undersides?! Underwires!

HotBurrito1 · 13/10/2011 22:53

Noooo, it's not like wearing a bra because it's not a bra!!! Leave well alone!!!

HouseOfBamboo · 13/10/2011 23:00

But the 'not like wearing a bra' is a Good Thing. I loathe bras, they are evil scratchy proddy instruments of torture.

HotBurrito1 · 13/10/2011 23:29

Ah but houseofbamboo you describe bad bras. There are good'uns. I'm convinced these are the monoboob one-size-fits-none variety. But I could be wrong Shock

FroOOOOOtshoOOOOOOts · 13/10/2011 23:31

A Genie Bra? I bet that name was thought up by a man
Well you can rub it and your wishes come true....

gettingolderbytheday · 14/10/2011 08:47

I can't see how it can give support to those of us over a DD - looks okay for smaller sizes though

toddlerama · 14/10/2011 08:49

I'm an E cup and Primark do a thick crop top with thin adjustable straps. It's amazing. I bought 4. I can wear it under anything (unlike Genie bra - which I'm sur eI have but with a different manufacturer's label Hmm) because of the thin straps.

ggirl · 14/10/2011 08:51

In the before and after pics she looks better before! Boobs look squished after.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 14/10/2011 09:10

Anyone wearing a scratchy, painful bra needs to get down to Nohn Lewis and get fitted - they'll soon have you strapped up nice and comfy.

HouseOfBamboo · 14/10/2011 10:18

WhatsWrongWithYou - I've done the professional bra fitting malarky (much lauded independent local bra shop) and I will admit that they do find bras that 'fit' and look good under clothes, they are just hellishly uncomfortable Sad so I end up not wearing them. I think I'm some kind of bra refuser freak.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 14/10/2011 10:20

That is so not going to hold up my pregnant 40Hs [hgrin]

CeliaFate · 14/10/2011 11:05

40H? Shock Swit swoo!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 14/10/2011 13:04

See, I don't get this; if the bra fits and looks good under clothes, what's not to like? If you've got ample bosoms to control you can't expect the lingerie equivalent of comfy leggings - the compromise is in the fact you can feel what you're wearing, which is a small price to pay for flattery in the bosom department imho!
(And John Lewis are better than Bravissimo, Rigby and Peller, and most of the independent bra shops I've ever tried).

HouseOfBamboo · 14/10/2011 13:43

What's not to like? The raging discomfort, the red welts, the itching, those little hooks that stab into your back... I wouldn't put up with any other item of clothing doing that so won't make an exception for bras.

Admittedly I'm not especially large of nork (34D, but that makes them sound bigger than they are), so it's easier to get away with crop tops, but I would love it if someone would invent an actual bra that is properly comfortable.

That Genie 'bra' doesn't look especially promising - it's just a crop top with horrible wide straps as far as I can see.

TobyLeWolef · 14/10/2011 13:45

I'm not going to lie -- I'm really tempted.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 14/10/2011 13:51

Sorry to go on, Houseof, but I think you're probably wearing the wrong size - guessing your back is narrower and your boobs fuller than you think Smile.

pommedechocolat · 14/10/2011 13:52

I'm confused. At a 32DD non pregnant and a 32FF currently pregnant how would dress sizes work for me?? A 10 might fit around the band but surely I'd just have really bad 4 boob syndrome on the cup?

As if small perky boobed ladies need MORE bra choice

HouseOfBamboo · 14/10/2011 14:16

WhatsWrong - thanks, I wish you were right Grin I'm pretty sure I'm measuring properly (not adding the 4 inches on to the band size etc) and I've tried a huge range of sizes from 38A to 32E. I think the problem is a combination of sensitive skin and strangely wide boobs that extend right round under my armpits. Also I really really don't like tight bands around my ribs, they make me feel slightly panicky. I'm a lost cause Grin

pomme - I guess they are relying on the elasticity to expand for cup sizeage, also the 4 boob effect is possibly minimised because the thing itself is elastic so the tops of the cups don't cut in as a normal bra would.

gilmoregirl · 14/10/2011 14:30

I wouldn't buy one on principle based on their sizing system:

8 - Small
10 - Medium
12 - large
14 - X large
16 - XX large
18 3XL
20 4XL

really? Pah.
