I want really hot thermal undies (like M&S men's ones) but in a "ladies" style. IS THAT REALLY TOO MUCH TO ASK???

Argh. Tempted to put this in the Feminism section. It is SO infuriating that women's "thermal" underwear is all the flimsy lacey crap stuff. I want maximum warmth brushed merino wool (comme ca but without a crew neck. V or scoop would be fine.

Do they not realise that lots of women spend frigging ages outside, hanging about in playgrounds etc? Angry

Icebreaker do some lovely bits, at your local Cotswold Outdoor or Snow + Rock

SpawnChorus · 06/10/2011 19:36

They look too flimsy. I need mega-heat, but with a neckline that's not higher than my normal tops.

Some here

M&S have got a new women's range that looks quite good, saw an advert for it today, not actually tried it so don't know how good it is but it's got good reviews on their website. I'm on my phone or I'd link it, sorry

jamaisjedors · 06/10/2011 19:48

Or someone linked to this site a while ago

CambridgeBaby one = too crew necky

Bella di Notte one looks kind of promising, although it's graded as "3" and the heat ratings are usually out of 5, plus it's about a tenner more than the men's ones in M&S, so that just pisses me off.

The Lidl ones are worth investigating further, but I'm not convinced about the inclusion of angora.

I've seen the M&S heat generating ones...might give them a go, but I'm not convinced they;ll be as warm as the men;s ones.

Uniqlo HeatTech is fantastic. It's thin, but it's got some kind of magic Japanese technology that keeps you SO warm.

jamaisjedors · 06/10/2011 20:27

oh no I hated the uniqlo ones, they felt really synthetic and made me itch (mind you it doesn't take much!).

jamaisjedors · 06/10/2011 20:30

ARe you sure none of the icebreaker@ ones are any good? there are loads

BuckminsterFullerene · 06/10/2011 21:43

Icebreaker aren't flimsy. They're expedition grade base layers!

BuckminsterFullerene · 06/10/2011 21:46

Although what you really want is a nice cosy down jacket! (or synthetic equivalent - I've got a lush arc'teryx waiting till it's cold enough to bust out!)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 06/10/2011 21:49

Icebreaker are amazing.

I had a couple of M&S thermal vests last winter when I was pregnant and they were lovely and cosy.

cerealqueen · 06/10/2011 22:11

Damart?

Still a bit 'lady' though, even old lady.....

BuckminsterFullerene · 06/10/2011 22:33

Ali, I wore DH's icebreakers till I couldn't squeeze in any more! I love love them!

DrunkenDaisy · 07/10/2011 13:09

Why don't you just buy the men's ones?

dexter73 · 07/10/2011 13:28

She wants a v or scoop neck, not a crew neck Daisy.

talkingnonsense · 07/10/2011 16:42

Millets, for Peter storm or other thermal tops and legs?

snowmummy · 07/10/2011 20:18

Look out for some in Aldi. They do merino wool ski/snowboard thermals at really good prices from time to time.
