Please help me find an outfit for 1st post-baby outing

Hi all,

My DS is now 4 months old and in a couple of weeks we're meeting friends for dinner & drinks in the big smoke. I'd like to look nice as my confidence has been knocked & am still very conscious of my flabby, c-sectioned midriff. Pre-baby I had a beanpole boyish figure. Long legs, flat chest, tall & slim. Am still similar but thanks to feeding, I now have boobs but no idea how to dress them and a jelly belly. Colour wise, I'm a brunette with sallow olive toned skin.

I don't have much money so fancied a nice tunic dress. I saw this which would be perfect, but they don't have my size. Or, I have this top from Warehouse (nicer than the pic suggests as can't see the detail) so had wondered if I could carry off tweedy shorts? But fear at 35, I may be pushing my luck. All suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your LO! My DD is a similar age and I'm finding it difficult to know what to wear on a daily basis. The tunic dress is lovely, but my only worry with tunic dresses is they can sometimes be shapeless and add weight to me! I tend to dress to emphasise the bits I like and hide what I don't-my jelly belly! The blouse is pretty, not sure about tweed shorts though! It would look nice with a pair of smart slim fitting trousers and heels. Glam things up with some nice accessories!

Thanks! Y'see - this is where I struggle! Am not very good at doing sophisticated.. Moved to country 3 years ago and my wardrobe reflects that fact.. Plus, despite being slim I've always been self-conscious of my lack of curves so gone for wide legs linen trousers or boy fit jeans. Which is why I thought a dress would be good as forces me to flash my pins! Any suggestions for the style of trousers you were thinking? I am officially clueless...

I have bought this and this for the same occasion although still pregnant. I'm hoping both with a pair of spanx should hide my tummy nicely going to wear thick black tights and black patent v high heels

This one is a similar shape but cheaper here and the colour would flatter your skin tone.

Oh! Congratulations on the pregnancy. Hope you're keeping well and not in a perpetual state of nausea for 5 months like I was. The ones you bought are gorgeous but I love the ASOS one. Don't have it in an 8 though so wondering if a 10 would fit? Off to measure myself up... Guess I now need to accommodate norks too so may need a larger size!

Oh - I like! But a bit dressier than I was hoping for.. We'll be going to a pub first and then to a fairly casual restaurant. The group are more my DHs mates than mine and as I'm 11 years his junior they have been quite scathing bitchy behind my back interested in what I've worn on nights out over the years. This wasn't an issue in my 20's when I was young and trendy and didn't give a hoop but over recent years we've rarely gone out socialising, tending to do the "dinner party" things as friends have settled down and had kids. So now I feel quite self-conscious and lost as to where to even begin! Oh dear, I sound utterly pathetic.

Hah! I wish! The norks are temporary (good incentive to continue BF ) & recently I've just felt a bit androgynous and awkward. Cape back dress very cute - if got some anti-jellybelly control top tights. It seems folk are more forgiving of flab wobble on a curvier lady. Seriously! Am shocked by how many people have excitedly pointed at my muffin top and exclaimed "Hah! You finally have some flab. Check you fatty!" (or similar). Was the same when I was preggers - me being barrel shape caused great delight and a need to constantly mention the fact. Unreal...

Hmmm.. Tried Oasis one on today but was screeching tight in all the worst places a bit clingy! Back to the drawing board...
