To fringe or not to fringe???

I've been thinking about having a fringe cut in for a few years now (yes, coward) but have always chickened out at the last minute. The last time I had a fringe was a home-cut one with a bob when I was about eight (thanks, dad).

My hair is pretty thick, dark brown, long (few inches past shoulders). Have had a kind of side swept over half-fringe (aka cop out fringe) in the past which is now growing out but still a much shorter length than the rest of my hair. I have a side parting.

I'd love a different look and think hope I could pull off a blunt kind of fringe (a la Jessica Alba but darker

Just wondering what people's experiences of having a fringe cut in for the first time have been? Did you need to style it a lot? What pproducts did you use? Did it really change your apprearance?

Honestly, mine is so much work I curse it everytime I get it cut back in. I get a spotty forehead, if it's wet or windy it goes crazy, I've yet to find a product that doesn't make it look greasy etc...

As a recent convert to fringerie, I would advise you to go for it. After years of the slaphead look, I absolutely adore my new look. If you hate it, it really won't take long at all to grow that kind of fringe out to what you have now.

I really like fringes but I do think it depends on your hair type. I've just grown mine out because my hair is too prone to frizziness and it's just too much like hard work trying to keep the fringe sleek. If your hair is naturally straight and sleek then go for it.

My hair is thick so can go bulky but not particuarly frizzy. It's by no means straight or sleek though unless coerced by a hairdresser. Hmm. I am lazy with styling in general (might blowdry hair and straighten it once a week then just let it dry naturally rest of the time) so was just hoping that I could spare the time to straighten or blowdry just the fringe at least.

If it's not frizzy you should be ok. Takes 2 seconds to run straighteners over fringe.

I had a big fat blunt fringe for years, I loved it, but it would only look nice when freshly washed, on day 2 it would separate and not look as nice. I tried washing just my fringe and drying it, but it never looked right.

I miss my fringe but have a young baby, so most of the time my hair just gets tied back for the school run and I do my hair later on the day.

I'd only recommend one if you have the time to mess with it every morning.
Wearing a hat in winter is a no no too.

I've been dilemma-ing over this.
My hair is a one length ,just past the shoulders 'style'

I took years to grow out the fringe and get it one length (I have to tie all the hair back off my face for work) and now I'm bored.

My choice would be :keep it as it is, a bit shorter bob but still able to tie back or completely short.
45 yo, oval face, glasses/contact lenses, no wrinkles (thankfully) but one expression line on forehead- for character y'know!

Thanks for your experiences. I think I'm just going to bloody go for it - I've been dithering over it for so long that I must want to do it really, right?

nancy I think I might encounter the same issues (oh and I do like a woolly hat in the winter) but no bebeh yet (TTC #1 at the moment) so I might as well make the most of the free time and hands while I can :) I'm hoping that GHDs will be my friend.

Think about your face shape and what the fringe will do for it/ to it. Look it up actually. There is a good guide somewhere on t'internet, forget where though.

A long fringe swept to the side is a good versatile option. You can make it look like a fringe, or blend it in with the rest of the hair.
