Smarter alternative to Converse trainers?

I have a nightmare getting jeans to fit but managed to get 2 pairs of boyfriend fit ones similar to these which have been wearing to death with ballet pumps in the sun and now brown suede converse plimsoles as it's getting colder. Am keen to keep wearing them as winter approaches but they look naff with my usual leather knee high boots under them (looked like was wearing brown wellies underneath!). Have tried on a couple of the brouge type but they didn't seem to fit with the style of the jeans. Does anyone have any suggestions? Am a total shopaphobic so have no clue where to start!

something that is very popular at the moment are these trainers.

Superga

if you're actually looking for something more wintery i think the thing with boyfriend jeans they won't look good with any boots/smarter shoes unless you roll them up -- something like this

or tuck them in biker boots like -- this

Oooooh! Thanks. Not sure am trendy enough to carry either option off! Think I need something trainer-like but without a white sole...

you could always get a pair of doc martens :P

FrancesFarmer · 22/09/2011 22:15

What about this sort of sneaker. They're a bit more "grown-up" looking than Cons imo.

i have just ordered \link{http://www.office.co.uk/womens/converse/as_lady_outsider/20/10983/29284/1/1?fs=10983\these} for winter

similar

ladyasriel · 22/09/2011 22:37

sometimes I don't know what I would do without Ash

peedieworky · 23/09/2011 19:30

Oh! Coveting the Ash boots but not smart enough... Will need to come up with another excuse to justify frivolous Ash boot purchase reason why I need those. Campers are good idea - bit more grown up. Think am definitely looking for brown rather than black. Great suggestions though folks - cheers!

ummme well I know they have a white sole but these are a bit smarter

fluffles · 23/09/2011 20:11

i wear mine with chunky timberland boots (pull-on not laceup) with a chunky heel. they don't look like brown wellies at all - you might be imagining that Confused

polyhymnia · 23/09/2011 20:12

Geox also do some quite nice and smart trainer-type shoes.

missismac · 23/09/2011 20:17

I am currently coveting a pair of these www.runningbare.co.uk/PROD972/FitFlop-Supertone-Bronze might they do?

cerealqueen · 23/09/2011 22:34

Desert boots?

Dancergirl · 23/09/2011 22:51

I've just bought these from Boden:

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Shoes-Boots/Flat-Shoes/AR482/Womens-Fab-Plimsolls.html?NavGroupID=11

I got the black/white spot which are fab!

biological · 24/09/2011 07:59

I'm mulling over these?

peedieworky · 25/09/2011 08:24

Oh! I didn't realise I needed so many different pairs Blush! I'll have a pair of each purleese!

My boyfriend jeans only look okay when rolled up. I wore them with flipflops or wedge sandals in the summer and the only way I will contemplate wearing them in Autumn is if I can ever manage to find some nice grey heeled ankle boots. I think Converse and full length straight jeans make people look like they have clown feet.

TOWISalford · 26/09/2011 13:21

La Redoute have some lurrrvly chic boots right now, ankle and knee, they're beautiful. I just wouldn't feel right in any sort of sporty type shoe and must be the only person on MN to despise Boden. I prefer ballet pumps if weather ok, boots over skinnies if raining or super cold.

peedieworky · 28/09/2011 21:32

La Redoute? Am on it..
