quilted jackets - OK or not?

I am probably way out of date here - but was wondering if a quilted jacket (they seem to resemble something i had from Barbour years ago for actual horse riding) would be suitable for wearing with jeans etc

I saw one in Boden at £89.00 but maybe someone here has seen a nicer and cheaper one?
I wouldn't want a really fitted one, just casual-ish please

TIA

They are in all the shops at mo.. New look have some lovely ones .. Look more than they cost . I like them , I think you need a good waist though as most have a belt.

They are so in at the moment, but I just can't get beyond the fact that quilted jackets were what the older set wore at point-to-points 20 years ago. So fo me they are not attractive.

No, i dont want one with a belt - i will probably wear it open stylee as i can't bear anything round my fat middle

I agree the New Look one is nice - but DD tried one on and it sat a bit strangely on her shoulders and neck. Worth trying though. I suspect Topshop will be doing a version as well.

I know what you mean about the point to point aspect, but I decided early in the summer that one would be handy for days you need a cover-up but it doesn't have to be too smart or 'fashiony.'

I bought a bright red Barbour, makes me look like this: Blush Grin.

Was in Oxford St yesterday and they are definitely in fashion right now.

I have been thinking about getting one too, I am mulling over one of those or one of the gorgeous 60's inspired coats I have seen around right now.

southeastastra · 21/09/2011 17:48

why would you want to wear some thing 80% of the population seem to be wearing?? i never get this

WhatsWrongWithYou · 21/09/2011 17:55

Ahem may I point out I bought mine several months ago, long before these whippersnappers started piling in Grin.

notanumptyalways · 21/09/2011 17:59

southeast for me I have just found this autumn/ winter collection to be all kinds of styles I like.

I am a huge fan of 60's clothing for instance.

I never get this excited about fashion usually and buy most of my things off Ebay so I can find vintage items that are never usually in the stores or in fashion.

It just so happens that I love the styles that are mainstream right now.

Oh dear, I never go shopping so I hadn't realised they were everywhere - just happened to see the lovely Boden one, which got me thinking that it might be the kind of jacket/coat i could have for autumn/winter.

What is the alternative then?

I am 40 and dress very casual

Just get one if you like them. There aren't really so many about, and anyway, the young'uns 'll move on to something else soon enough!
Mine does for school run, going to my voluntary office 'job,' taking DCs to activities, supermarket sweep - the list goes on. < Whisper > I've even worn it to the local graveyard pub (disclaimer: I live in the country).
