lands end coat for dog walking and watching the boys play football/rugby. was slightly less than the north face version and didnt have the branding that north face does. so a winner for me, but not excatly stylish.

Yep, another vote for the down coats. Have also had boyfriend cardigans, vests, ballet pumps and very long wide leg chinos from them (good for tall people as they will hem to the length you need). But agree most of it is frumpy. Quality though is excellent.

auldspinster · 20/09/2011 12:44

They're good for cold weather boots and coats. I've got a brushed cotton nightie from there that makes me look like an extra from little house on the prairie but is super cosy. The sale reductions are very good too, sometimes 70 or 80 % off.

EldonAve · 20/09/2011 13:26

coats okay
some kids stuff okay

bought cotton tops and cardis last year and they looked like rags almost instantly

JemimaMuddledUp · 20/09/2011 14:13

I like the kids' clothes.

LukeWarmMomma · 20/09/2011 15:09

CMOT I shall keep 'um peeled for a Greggs sausage roll Smile

Parasaurolophus · 20/09/2011 21:21

As an American expat, I can say that even Americans find this frumpy for women. My sartorially indifferent husband buys all his clothes from Lands End. I used to buy the children clothes from LE until they began to look like identikits of their father. The children and adult clothes are EXACTLY the same only different sizes. Great for those American Christmas photos where everyone wears the same outfit. Appalling for any woman under the age of 65.

meditrina · 20/09/2011 21:30

I think their swimwear is really good, and the jeans and basics are fine (though won't set anyone's pulse racing).

The Kids stuff is lovely - I think it's great that most of the skirts are actually skorts, and the choice of eg boys T shirts is much better than Boden. Children's swimwear is excellent.

Another former yank here, www.llbean.com/llb/shop/27?nav=gnro-hp were considered superior to L'end for outdoor clothing... I still have a canvas coat I bought from Bean some 20 odd yrs ago.

Grockle · 20/09/2011 21:39

Bran, the apostrophe came from when the company was to do with sailing - it was named after Land's End but the apostrophe was a typo but they couldn't afford to reprint all the promo stuff so it had to stay. It's part of Chicago heritage.

Earlybird · 21/09/2011 03:08

I've got dd some good basic weekend knock-about clothes from them, and have been pleased with look, fit and quality.

Adult clothes generally tend toward the frumpy, but selective shopping for basics is fine. I got a straightforward pull-on light weight jersey skirt (in chocolate brown) and wore it a great deal this summer. The skirt itself was nothing amazing, but it was a serviceable weekend 'running errands' sort of item.

CheerfulYank · 21/09/2011 03:21

YABU....I am not middle aged. :o

Some of it looks halfway okay on the models but would look shit on a real person doing real things...not, you know, laughing over one shoulder at one's golden retriever. On a dock.

Agree L L Bean is better.

MmeBucket · 21/09/2011 04:18

As a middle aged American woman, I have to say that Lands' End is far too frumpy. Even for me.

mirpuppet · 21/09/2011 08:31

Frumpy.

homeaway · 21/09/2011 10:05

A lot of it is frumpy but there are a few things that are ok.

SheWhoMustNotBeFlamed · 21/09/2011 10:36

25% off all orders, ends Sunday, code 25FF

kplondon · 21/09/2011 11:36

I think the kids' stuff is nice - maybe even very nice - as are the non-iron (or more accurately minimal-iron) women's cotton shirts (Mary Portas might even approve) but everything else that I have tried or bought from them is frumpy and saggy baggy.

kplondon · 21/09/2011 11:45

FTA that their girls' navy joggers are so much nicer than the standard issue navy joggers that John Lewis etc. sell. Elasticated trackie bottoms don't look good on anyone, even delightful 10 year olds:

ggirl · 21/09/2011 12:59

hmm SheWhoMustNotBeFlamed you must be in favour with LE , I only got 20% off code , may order ds something with yours instead

glitch · 21/09/2011 13:08

Oh god, am sat here in a Lands End jumper - am I now officially frumpy? Blush

I bought a winter coat in the sale from there too.

In my defence I do wear them for dog walking mainly.

ggirl · 21/09/2011 13:24

s'ok glitch you're allowed the coat , we've deemed them such good quality that we excuse the frumpiness...not so sure about the jumper though

tethersend · 22/09/2011 13:48

30% off all online orders until Sunday- enter code 30FF at checkout

SheWhoMustNotBeFlamed · 23/09/2011 13:54

Tethers, inevitably, has the best code!

sloggies · 23/09/2011 16:58

Have had good stuff (basics) in the past, but the vests I bought last year are much thinner, and poorer quality. Used to buy their long-sleeved t.shirts, but found I could get the same thing much cheaper at M & S.

moragbellingham · 23/09/2011 17:33

I agree,kp and with 30% off (Wine Tethers I got merely 25%!) I might be stocking up.
p.s. and Matalan do a good navy yoga pant/non-elastic cuff jogger too.

Stadium squall coat at 30% off for the impending cold winter hmmmmmmm tempting.
I'll get my coat.
