Hair Removal

I'm thinking of having the new Intense Pulsed Light treatment(IPL) to remove the hair on my upper lip and was wondering if any MNetters have tried it and whether it was any good. Otherwise, has anyone had electrolysis?

Please, no offence intended, what is wrong with a quick shave with a razor? Really genuinely asking, not meaning to be rude.

Well, it would grow back stubbly for a start. At the moment I wax it about every 3 -4 weeks.

Also, the problem is likely to get worse as I get older and the IPL is meant to be permanent.

Oh I have never noticed stubble but then I only have to shave mine once in a blue moon. Sorry, I'll leave you to get a sensible answer now!

I've not had the IPL but had electrolysis - good but agony. Fine everywhere else, but the middle of the upper lip was extraordinarilly painful.

Turq, was the electrolysis any good and may I ask what other bits you had done with it?

Electrolysis was horrible - very painful, left me with big red sores on my top lip, and the hair all came back with reinforcements. I have my lip and chin waxed every few weeks but would love to have something permanent done.

LM, shaving makes the hairs look worse when they start to grow back and you get a nine o'clock shadow so you have to do it every day. Think about what a man's top lip looks like at the end of the day, and that's how a hairy top lip would look if a woman shaved it. I have a friend who shaves every morning, and by the evening she looks as if she has a full beard and moustache coming.

Yes it was good, as I found waxing/plucking made the hair much stronger. It took several sessions though, and I haven't had it for nearly a year now and I think I'll have to have occasional topups.
I also had a fair bit on the chin - but that didn't hurt much.

Oh, that reminds me, must go and wax tach and sideburns!

I've had IPL on the lower half of my legs, and started a course on my underarms, but had to stop as I got pregnant.

Results are fab! What little hair still grows on legs is very very pale and soft, so barely noticeable, and there's very little that grows there at all. Don't have trouble with upper lip hair, but would imagine it would work a treat on such a small area.

Expensive but worth it!

I like the idea of having my underarms done. How much does IPL cost?

For underarms you'd prob be looking at upwards of £400 for a course of treatment. Many SAKS salons do this now, so would recommend giving them a call for more specific pricing.
