My jeans are too long (or my legs are too short)

... by about an inch. They have quite big hems and I think it will look a bit crap if I try to take them up myself. Can I just cut the excess off with scissors or will I look like a dick?

Look here It's very very easy.

Take them to someone who does clothing alterations (often dry cleaners will provide this service) - my DH is between sizes so his trousers are always too long or too short, we simply buy the longer size and have them altered. They are able to do it 'properly' (with the standard yellow thread that is used on jeans for example) so it looks right. It's cheaper and less hassle than buying another pair of jeans.

Wow, that's a great tutorial, thanks Pork - thought I couldn't be arsed to take them up but will try that. Also solves the problem of some jeans I got forr DD which go up to her armpits!
