When do we start wearing fall/winter boots? Tights?

Is it a temperature thing? Is it a time-of-year thing? Can you wear boots after September 1 (October 1?) no matter what, or does the temperature also have to be below a certain threshold? Or should you just wear boots and/or tights whenever you would wear a fall/winter jacket?

When it's cold. I have no set date. Today it is cold so I'm wearing boots with my jeans instead of sandals.

JackieNo · 06/09/2011 13:54

I've already worn mine a couple of times, and probably would be today, if I was at work, not slobbing around at home Blush. I go with the weather, personally.

Insomnia11 · 06/09/2011 13:55

I have opaque tights on today.

KimberlyClark · 06/09/2011 13:56

we wear them now :)

i am wearing purple 70 deniers with winter boots and very snug they are too :)

AgonyBeetle · 06/09/2011 13:57

Fall?

Autumn, surely. This is the UK, y'know. Hmm

whoneedssleepanyway · 06/09/2011 14:01

black opaques on here today....

kplondon · 06/09/2011 14:08

AgonyBeetle - you caught me out. That little slip outed me as a North American, after ten years in the UK Blush.

Anyway - I think this all means that I am allowed to buy myself a new pair of winter boots.

I should be wearing tights as not warm. But not ready to relinquish.

Insomnia11 · 06/09/2011 14:17

I like the word "fall". Very descriptive. I think we should rename Winter: Freeze, Spring: Optimism and Summer: Disappointment. :)

BellaBearisWideAwake · 06/09/2011 14:19

Insomnia: very good!!

Wear them when it's cold enough. You don't need to be told a particular date when it's okay to do it. Today is windy, rainy and shite. Ergo - tights weather.

Pandsbear · 06/09/2011 14:44

Today! Pouring with rain here - winter boots on over leggings (well old boots from last year, I couldn't quite face putting my new boots on...).

PuppyMonkey · 06/09/2011 14:47

I've worn boots for about the last three weeks, have seen lots of others doing the same. Mind you, have seen lots of girls on boiling hot days still sporting their Uggs. Boots are all year round these days, clearly. Grin

Northumberlandlass · 06/09/2011 14:51

I have my skinny jeans & knee high Docs on today, it's quite warm though..but the gale force wind / rain is making it feel autumnal Smile

Am already looking in charity shops for autumn stuff...so far l have got a dark green velvet jacket for £5 and a knee length brown fitted trench coat for £15 !

I love buying for autumn..my favourite time of year !

madammecholet · 06/09/2011 15:32

I'm into winter wardrobe, have been since last week. Met a girlfriend who was in summer kaftan and leggings/sandals on fri, I arrived in boots/jeans/scarf/wool coat and she declared I was mad.

Who's laughing now with the force 10 outside and lashing rain!Grin

FreeButtonBee · 06/09/2011 16:21

I wore my new boots today with opaque tights. You've just got to dress for the actual weather in the UK, not for the calendar. If it's sunny tomorrow, it'll be bare legs.

StopRainingPlease · 06/09/2011 20:29

Wore my winter boots last week...

neuroticmumof3 · 06/09/2011 21:35

I'm back in tights and boots now.

Pinkflipflop · 06/09/2011 21:52

Have been in tights/boots all week!

ChippyMinton · 06/09/2011 21:57

Today. Brrr...

lostlady · 06/09/2011 21:57

Boots and tights/leggings all year round here, even through "summer"- Scotland. And hideous ski old ski jacket for dog walk today, bloody freezing

lostlady · 06/09/2011 21:58

Sorry for extra ski, oops

acsec · 06/09/2011 22:03

Wore mine today and if the weather is similar tomorrow I'll be wearing them again!

totallyshoeless · 06/09/2011 22:37

kp some of us had you tagged as an American before we even got to the mention of fall... no post-Labor Day rules here you know! Grin
I got the opaques out today. Anything goes here (within reason) :)
