Right, need a winter coat right now - need help! Thinking parka?

School run this morning made me realise it's definitely not summer anymore and I need a new coat. I really like parkas but am intensely fussy. It would probably need to be green and very toasty.

Any suggestions? Grin

Oooh, loving the Topshop one! Grin

I actually did try one from Dorothy Perkins, it was nice but I was dithering. (I always dither over big purchases. Well, not massive but I tend to treat my coats like investments that last for years rather than buy a new one every year as am skint.)

the Jack Wolfskin parka looks lovely ... Not sure about the colours though.

lulahrose · 06/09/2011 14:51

I have the Topshop one from last year, so snug and warm, I will be wearing it again this year.

moragbellingham · 06/09/2011 20:31

Now I know this is out of stock, but I always wanted an Alpha Industries parka. They really are warm and are still available elsewhere.

babycham42 · 06/09/2011 20:37

I love the River Island one!

babycham42 · 06/09/2011 20:39

Mine is Denim Co and it"s great but sorry, can"t do a link.

MrsCampbellBlack · 06/09/2011 20:41

barbour

DilysPrice · 06/09/2011 20:45

I love the Barbour, but I have a lighter weight rainproof one and it's distinctly tight around the arse Blush

groak · 06/09/2011 20:49

Have you tried the North face TriClimate? It's got the fleece inner that you can remove s it's v warm and dry! If you shop around you can get it on offer...

vigglewiggle · 06/09/2011 20:50

I got the Merrell Haven last year thanks to a thread on here and it is FAB. It is warm and waterproof and as a bonus, quite a few people commented about how good it looks!

talkingnonsense · 06/09/2011 20:53

Last years Boden wAs much nicer in real life, I got it in a clearance sale and it is still too warm to wear it! Would recommend trying this years if you have free returns.

Pinkflipflop · 06/09/2011 20:54

in love with this one

CountBapula · 06/09/2011 21:03

This French Connection one looks nice.

applecrumbleandcream · 06/09/2011 21:23

I love the French Connection parka Count but to me it doesn't look very warm.

I have a black fur hooded River Island parka which I bought last Winter which was fine this morning in the rain, although it is padded it is not really thick enough for cold weather. I like the look of the Top Shop one but would have to have a look at it in RL to see if it's going to get me through the cold school runs this winter (and heard it's going to be a bad one - winter that is!).

StantonLacy · 10/09/2011 12:50

Have been watching this thread for ideas as parkas are my idea of a proper coat Smile.

I got this one today from River Island. www.riverisland.com/Online/women/coats--jackets/jackets/khaki-hooded-parka-602186

I went in there to try on the one linked to earlier in the thread, but this one was much nicer (IMO). And best of all the sizing was massive. So it gave me a sad and false ego boost to have fitted into a size 10 when I don't think I have EVER been smaller than a 12! Seriously, I've always had trouble finding something to fit my generous bosom, but this was great and had a little drawstring on the inside to nip the waist in if you don't want the sack look.

I like it ! (the green is much nicer in real life than the link - link looks more browny, but it is green, I promise. Nice orange lining, too)

ChillyCooper · 10/09/2011 12:56

I have the Alpha Industries one - bought it in 1998 and have worn it through every subsequent winter. It's only mildly tatty and I love it dearly. Cost £35 full price retail back then Shock

Rafaella · 10/09/2011 19:13

Topshop

Rafaella · 10/09/2011 19:16

Sorry, just seen it's already been suggested. I tried it on today it is amazing but too long for me 5'3in

Collision · 10/09/2011 19:18

Surely it needs to be waterproof too?

Collision · 10/09/2011 19:18

mountain warehouse in green

Collision · 10/09/2011 19:20

3 in 1 green here

warmandwooly · 10/09/2011 20:46

May i suggest a duffle coat. You can get some lovely ones and they can be good investments and hardwearing. You can then just layer up or down dependinhg on the weather.

exercisejunkie · 10/09/2011 23:23

i'm totally in love with this one from joules

www.joules.com/en-GB/Womens-Padded-Coat/Marine-Navy/L_BELMONT/ProductDetail.raction

its available in navy, red or brown, quite like the red i think. I tried in on in JL and its really warm.
