A shampoo that will wash and keep hair clean for 2 days - does this product exist?

I have fine, but plenty of naturally, curly/wavy hair. Looks great on day of hair wash but the 2nd day not so great. My hair I suppose, would be classed as normal/greasy. Any recommendations please?

Have you heard of the No Poo (or Low Poo) method? It works wonders and is another of those things to add to the list of "Things MN told me to do"!

Well, I've been into Body Shop and bought some their rain forest range shampoo and conditioner - as a first step. I actually have some of the Kingsley scalp stuff but had forgotten about it. Will report back with regards the body shop stuff. If I could leave my hair unwashed I truly would....yuksville!

Aussie Frizz Miracle doesn't have silicones in it, I too have fine, wavy/curl/lots of hair and it goes 2 days very happily with these, even if I use a bit of Boots Curl Creme (also silicone free) on it. I use Batiste if I do get an itchy scalp, usually on the 3rd day. I avoid styling products as much as possible, avoid silicones and generally let it dry naturally (not always in winter though). It is in the best condition I can ever remember it being.

I have fine curly wavy hair and itchy flaky scalp. I swear by Dr Organic (H&B) Aloe Vera shampoo and conditioner. I wash my hair every 2-3 days. It makes it lightweight and bouncy, clears my scalp, and gives it good shine.

£4.99 a bottle, excellent stuff.

RollingInTheAisles · 17/08/2011 22:51

Aussie Mega and Neutrogena Original are good for the squeaky clean feeling.

moragbellingham · 18/08/2011 10:13

Interesting bumf.
Looked at the ingredients of my Aussie colour mate and it doesn't have silicone/dimethicone in it but it does have the lubricant cetearyl alcohol so I guess, the same thing.

saythatagain · 18/08/2011 10:28

Washed my hair with the Body Shop Rain Forest shampoo and conditioner for oily hair - upto now I've had no itching.....we'll see!
It will be interesting to see what my hair looks like tomorrow morning!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/08/2011 12:48

Fingers crossed. Cetearyl alcohol isn't a silicone, it's for emulsifying and thickening. Silicone ingredients are the ones ending in siloxane or methicone

Update: the Body Shop products were no good; in fact I think they've made my scalp worse Sad
So, I've bitten the bullet & just ordered some Philip Kingsley Itchy Scalp shampoo and the tonic. I took a look at the reviews and didn't read one negative comment. I'm expecting great things! My scalp is soooo uncomfortable-itchy and there's large flakes too...boo hoo!

Thanks for the update :)

I find the real trick is to change shampoo regularly. I use two different ones and alternate using them every two days. I think I read in a magazine that it works because you are using different chemicals, so your natural oils aren't stripped so harshly. I also only use conditioner once or twice a week, to avoid my hair becoming too greasy. It seems to work, people often ask how I get my hair to be so shiny, and you can barely tell the difference between what I have used and whether it was this morning or yesterday morning. I currently use herbal essenses 2 in 1 alternated with aussie miracle moist with a 3 minute miracle treatment once a week, although I tend to buy whatever is on offer in the supermarket. I don't get on well with pantene or head and shoulders, both give me dandruff! I think its personal choice, but definitely a good idea to try a variety.

Hope you find one or two that work for you!

saythatagain · 02/09/2011 13:20

I thinks its sadly a little more complex than that Lizzy. I feel like ripping by scalp off - the reviews for these PK products are really outstanding - I just hope I'm not the odd one out. If it doesn't improve with this stuff then its off to the doc I think.

I suffer from itchy scalp, so alternate shampoos all the time, as that helps. The one I would most hate to run out of is: Original Source Tea Tree and Mint Shower Gel - yes note it is the Shower Gel not shampoo.

I came across it when two bottles were delivered with my Tesco order, I hadn't ordered them and I wasn't charged. I tried to give them back to the delivery guy but he practically implored me to keep them . . . I think he was tired and at the end of both his shift and tether, and couldn't face the paperwork.

I found the shower gel too, um, invigorating for my nethers, but determined to use my freebie [tightarse emoticon] I used it as a shampoo, reasoning that a) it's all the same stuff anyway and b) if it had tea tree oil in it hopefully it would be soothing.

I found it the best stuff for my itchy scalp I have found for a long time.

They have since bought out a shampoo, but I prefer to stick to the shower gel as I know it works for me (and yes I know I just said it's all the same stuff Grin )

I also use the purple one, tea tree and lavender, which is OK but not as good, but smells fab.

FreeButtonBee · 02/09/2011 13:38

STA - hope it works for you. I really do recommend it and will NEVER change. My DH has started using it as well (just the shampoo) and it's definitely improved his dandruff. He was using t-gel and other medicated type shampoos with varying degrees of luck.

I can use something else for a day or two but any more than that, and my scalp starts to go bananas. I've been using the shampoo for a year and a half now, and have only strayed once and quickly went back! I tend to use the tonic less frequently now - maybe once or twice a month. But it's particularly nice to put on in the evening on day 2 and then massage in. It dries fairly quickly and really soothes.

PlentyOfPubgardens · 02/09/2011 13:44

I wash mine in Ecover washing up liquid twice a week and it's bloody gorgeous Smile

JudysDreamHorse · 02/09/2011 14:10

I've always used tea tree shampoos as I get a bit of a flaky scalp . Lately, it's been harder to find them on the High Street as a lot of shops seem to have stopped doing them so I bought this from a health shop. Since I've started using it I've found my hair looks a lot cleaner on the 2nd day and I sometimes wash it every 3 days instead. Maybe it's because it doesn't have silicone in it and other people on the thread seem to have found tea tree helps. Lasts for ages too.

saythatagain · 02/09/2011 18:35

I've just got in and washed my hair in some t-gel. I can't wait for the bloody stuff to arrive! Thanks for your replies. I'll get back to you with results

I am tempted to buy the Jet Set trio to try, cheapest I can find is £16.50. My scalp has started playing up again and is a bit yacky so I need to do something.

Be interesting to hear how you get on. I have a cupboard full of failed products...I guess what works for one won't necessarily work for another.

chipstick10 · 02/09/2011 20:37

Philip Kingsley recommends washing your hair everyday. Says you wash your body everyday why wouldnt you do the same to your hair. Your scalp needs it. I have been doing this and its great. No second day hair and trying to do something with it.

noddyholder · 02/09/2011 20:38

I have started using kiehls hair stuff and I am really impressed with the argan shampoo. Day 3 here and hair still 'feels' clean

saythatagain · 19/09/2011 18:03

So, my Phillip Kingsley shampoo arrived....wow! Great, great success. My hair is just better all round and the bonus is, it looks virtually just as good on the second day. Im just hoping it stays as good and my hair doesn't become used to it, if that makes sense! Thanks for all you recommendations folks.

Oh glad it's helping, Say. I've been using it for about 18 months and not got used to it. Just need a conditioner now - hair is not shiney at the moment which is a shame.

I bought the bumble +bumble thickening spray - it's pretty good actually. You really don't need very much of it and it definitely gives a bit more volume and thickness to my fine fine hair. Evening of day two is actually okay (rather than horrible). It's £££ but I think a bottle will prob last a year at least because you need so little.

SayItIsntSo · 19/09/2011 20:21

The thing which has helped me most is a tangleteaser which means I don't have to soak my hair in conditioner and then serum to get it into shape. This has made my hair much less weighed down.

TigerseyeMum · 19/09/2011 20:59

I bought the PK Itchy Scalp shampoo too but not the scalp lotion - it worked for the first few days but unless I keep using it the flakes come back :(

Maybe I need the scalp lotion too for it to work...or maybe this is just a product trap where I want to keep buying more stuff in the hope it works Hmm

And my hair has gone drier than a dry thing on a windy day at the beach.

saythatagain · 21/09/2011 11:55

So Fine - this bumble&bumble, it won't give me an itchy scalp or coat my hair ie make it greasy quicker? I love the idea of bouncy, voluminous hair!
