here

I personally think she's right, KMid wears way too much liner and makes her look old.

(I know there is far more serious news issues to discuss, but this is s&b after all)

Oh yes I think she'd suit that MooMinCow. Her eyeliner is way too harsh imo. Doing it with brown or grey would soften it a bit.

MacGuffin · 09/08/2011 20:17

I like the dark eye liner look. I too do the 'Egyptian' eyes. DofC would look a bit mole-like without it - who needs to be subtle all the time???

MacGuffin · 09/08/2011 20:18

Subtle and soft eye make up is the equivalent of having one feature wall in one room and thinking you are 'crazy' - bah to that! ....... Grin

sue52 · 09/08/2011 20:19

I'm convinced her eyeliner is tattooed on.

ClaireDeLoon · 09/08/2011 20:25

To properly judge we need her to post a pic of herself in softer eye make-up. I feel sure she's a mn'er and would happily oblige but you should have started this in the ttc section to get her attention Wink

Popbiscuit · 09/08/2011 20:29

Good call, Sue! That's why she wore it like that for the wedding! She couldn't change it, even if she wanted to! Pippa and DTM also wear their eyeliner the same way so perhaps they got the family rate?
Claire- hahahahaha! TTC!

LynetteScavo · 09/08/2011 20:33

GhoulLasher, not becuase VW is old... because she has terrible make up!!!

I thought that was obvious from the link.

Barbara Windsor is no spring chicken, but I'd rather take her make up advice

ifancyashandy · 09/08/2011 20:35

VW was asked her opinion - that's why she offered it. Love VW bonkersness and hope I'm still such a game old bird when I'm her age!

That said KM is clearly a very pretty woman (but not beautiful to my eyes) but she should try other make up looks. Just looks like she's got stuck in a rut and that can become very aging I think.

Oh and VW clothes are phenomenal! Her dresses fit me like a dream and are timeless classics. I adore her clothing!

noddyholder · 09/08/2011 20:35

Vivienne is right about everything I LOVE HER!

FrancesFarmer · 09/08/2011 20:42

Viv is right, I think. Surely KM will change her makeup routine at some stage.

MooMinCow · 09/08/2011 20:44

Ghoulasher-good point about the posh girl look. Didn't her late MIL wear hers the same way? (thought Diana looked better with less slap like in those famous fresh faced Testino snaps). Maybe it's a Sloaney thing?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2011 20:56

Ifancyashandy - hell yes re VW's clothing! I'm steadily building up a collection now and bloomin' love it - v flattering and v cleverly cut.

At least she isn't trying to look 'young' as Barbara W seems to be. And at least she's got something other than a pair of tits to her name.

NamingFlora · 09/08/2011 21:00

I actually find her eye make up very reminiscent of Diana (although obviously she hasn't gone for the blue eyeliner/mascara look).

NamingFlora · 09/08/2011 21:01

X-post MooMin

FGM · 09/08/2011 21:06

I agree with Sue 52- it's tattooed on.

They do it at her favourite salon.

Way too harsh and she can't do a thing about it.

crystalglasses · 09/08/2011 21:09

My wedding photos show up my black eyeliner and it looks horrid now. So dated.

echt · 09/08/2011 21:16

Vivienne Westwood is magnificent.

Far more interesting-looking than most women of her age, or younger.

Love her mad hair.

echt · 09/08/2011 21:18

Oh, and she's right about the eyeliner - two burnt holes in a blanket.

Havingkittens · 10/08/2011 00:08

Maybe it's a Sloaney thing?

I was just going to say, it looks like the kind of make up Sloaney mums teach to their Sloaney daughters. Dated, cliched and uninteresting. I don't necessarily think she should be wearing softer, more subtle make up. She is a young woman after all. But she should be wearing (current style) young woman's make up rather than a replica of what her mum was probably wearing in the 80s/90s.

As for the wedding make up, I thought it was such a waste. This is the make up she wears with her Reiss dresses on a day to day basis. If you're going to be wearing a once in a lifetime dress, wear once in a lifetime make up. Especially if the whole world's eyes are on you. Special day, special dress, special hair & make up, not drab everyday make up (not very well applied) and bland hair.

TillyIpswitch · 10/08/2011 04:15

I wouldn't blame KM for not listening to VW, after all she's a whole 'nother generation and certainly doesn't have a look that everyone would take seriously. But on the other hand, her eyeliner just does her no favours - and people who also wear their eyeliner that way aren't qualified to comment, since it doesn't do them any favours, either! Grin

Kate is a pretty girl and eyeliner can and does look good; just not applied that way.

LaLaLaLayla · 10/08/2011 04:32

Agree, the eye liner looks terrible, but the sister's eyeliner is worse. The problem with (Pippa?) is that she has relatively small eyes. The harsh eyeliner just makes them look smaller.

And VW rules. Our country should feel very proud to have her.

Funk · 10/08/2011 04:44

She does need a bit of a makeover doesn't she. I'd love to see her do something with her hair. Her head and body are too small (now that she's lost so much weight) for the big hair thing. Layering would be the way to go...she's only 29 afterall.

iscream · 10/08/2011 06:05

Yep, Kate's eyeliner is harsh and ages her. But, they are her eye's, not mine. She looks about 35, without it, she could pass for 21.

MooMinCow · 10/08/2011 08:25

morning

I thought the same havingkittens re: her wedding face. she had makeup artists falling over themselves to do her face, but thought it strange she wanted to do itself? I would be a bag of nerves and wouldn't trust myself to do anything! but, hey, I think under the 'vanilla' exterior is a core of steel (she will need it with her in laws!)

don't get me started on Pippa M Angry big fuss about (tangoed) nothing IMO.

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 10/08/2011 08:29

I wondered if it might have to do with making her facial features more clearly visible from a distance. That's what I thought with her wedding make-up - lots of blusher, the eyeliner etc - so her face wouldn't just be a pale blur seen from a distance

I still think - let her do her own thing. Women don't all have to look the same, jsut because they are in the public eye.If she sticks with her look for years on end, people will just accept and come to associate it with her
