I am booked in for my first ever wax barr eyebrows (which I find strangely relaxing!). Me being me I decided to hell with it, lets give the Brazilian a whirl. So...for those whom have had before. Painful? A lot? A little? Problems afterward? I am really dark, olive skin, dark hair. Shaving and hair removal lasts about...two days!

First time is 'sharp' and might leave you a bit bumpy for a day or so. Take a couple of paracetomol 45 mins before to take the edge off. The upper bit is actually a bit worse than the undercarriage. Rose water spray is quite soothing afterwards.

I don't find it bad at all to be honest. The worst bit is the thick hair on the front but that is gone in 3 strips so just grit your teeth Grin. It is not unbearable just a sharp quick pain. If you have thick and dark hair like me it will be easier as the wax grips it better and it comes out straight away so they don't to keep going over it.

Oh and keep chatting to the beautician - if you focus on pain it is worse. But honestly it is not bad! The first time is the worst then your nerves get numbed I think Grin

I don't find the top bit hurts much at all but the underneath area makes me wince a bit. I remember coming out of my first one thinking it wasn't as bad as I expected - go in expecting it to be horrendous and you'll be pleasantly surprised! :o

I take brufen before going and my therapist suggested eating a bar of chocolate before hand as this helps stimulate the endorphins, which is as good an excuse as any. You might get get some ingrown hairs so be ready to exfoliate in a few days time. Underarms worse I find.

god no
like taking aplaster off

Pounamu · 04/08/2011 14:42

I find it hurts for a very brief moment but the benefits of being neat and clean 'down there' for weeks afterwards far outweigh a few minutes of discomfort IMO. Also as others suggest if you take a couple of panadol about 30-45 minutes before going in it definitely helps

KaySirah · 04/08/2011 14:46

oh hair is SO SO dirty isnt it

FreeButtonBee · 04/08/2011 22:38

First time hurts like buggery. If you go back regularly (3 weeks seems to work fir me) its a lot less painful.

CloversMama · 05/08/2011 06:59

Just to add, I was always advised not to go during or around my period as this will make it more painful. Not sure where the science is in that.

It's really not that bad and the more you go, the better it gets.
