Shrunk my new trousers - can I make them into shorts?

Bought some really nice white linen trousers from Wallis (I'm allowed to, I'm a Woman of A Certain Age).

Got a spot of red wine on them, bunged them in the wash with all the other whites and the bastard things have really shrunk, ie they're half way down my calves but still fit round my waist and bum.

Is it worth trying to turn them into shorts? I never wear shorts as have fat veiny white legs, but maybe long, knee length? Would it be worth it or shall I turn them into cleaning rags ?

I'd be hot-footing it down to Wallis to demand a refund!!

Unless they're dry-clean only I would not expect a pair of trousers to shrink so massively and you have been sold an item which is not fit for purpose.

Ditto knitwear which bobbles after one wash - back it goes.

I agree with CV, get them back for a refund! They shouldn't have shrunk! Unless they are dry-clean only, then its your own fault for chancing it - if thats the case turning them into shorts is simple enough

They are dry clean only and I am a Numpty who never reads care labels [shame]

Certainly worth giving it a go before binning them.

I think if I was you I'd first tack them up at 'crop' level to see how that looks, before going above the knee.

Cheers Grimma.

I have some similar from Primark which cost about a fiver and always wash brilliantly. Bloody poncey dry clean only.

Well in that case you don't have a shrunken leg to stand on, OP. Grin

I agree crops might be better than shorts, but if they're too wide you might look a bit daft.
