L'oreal is Lancome re-packaged- is it?

Someone-who was very helpful Blackcoffee said this today. is that right?

I know there has been this debate before is Bourgois is actually Chanel. But are they?

BUT is that the same as products being the same but re-packaged?

L'Oreal is the parent company of Lancome.

I know, curtesy of The Sunday Times today, that old Mr L'oreal was a Nazi sympathiser and he bought out Helena Rubinstein. I'm told that L'oreal owns a few brands, Lancome being one of them in the same way Estee Lauder owns Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Aveda etc. I think the research base is the same for Lancome and L'oreal.

yes, I know that Frilly that's why I googled and posted all the brands that L'oreal owns- inc. Lancome!
But a make up artist today said they also re-packaged Lancome, as L'Oreal.

I really don't think they are the same - lancome would use more expensive ingredients etc. However lots of people like to believe it And no way is bourjois chanel.

apparently the vie stuff is made by 'lancome' too

and I wouldnt be surprised to find out that l'oreal has something to do with Avon, esp their skincare as the names and packaging is so similar...

I would say it's made by the same people but to a different recipe.

Confused here. If L'Oreal is Lancome repackaged - what is Lancome..?

Bugger! didn't realise Lancome were part of L'Oreal. That is another product I can't use then.

At the risk of outting mself in RL. My Aunt's company is a massive global corporation that makes the packaging for cosmetic companies. Including Lancome, L'oreal etc.As well as other leading brands. I saw Blackcoffees earlier post and she is bang on.

My aunts house is dripping with cosmetics, I mean you open a cupboard and makeup just crashes out because they compare the products in their various packaging. The key to the luxury of the product is the glamour in its casement but yes the product inside is the same. Sadly none of us ever dare ask her for the makeup as we dont want to look like grasping old cows!

But you see I've used a bourjois foundation and a chanel one and seriously there is no comparison and i don't mean packaging.

Also not sure what is meant to compare to genifyque from the l'oreal range??

I would also say that the colours in chanel particularly nail varnishes are not comparable with cheaper ranges.

And also lancome bifacils is a million times better than the l'oreal version so I just don't believe they are the same but in different packaging.

It is confusing!

I mean, with Lancome and other brands, you are paying for the consultants, the advertising, the floor space in dept stores and the posh boxes.

I have just gone out and bought some LOreal foundation- it's early days but as a high-end buyer 90% of the time, I am impressed.

On the other hand, I have had some Dior eyeshadow- 5 palette- for a year, and they colours wear so well compared to cheaper brands. However, the stupid container broke quickly- lid fell off- and do I really need it in a box and a velvet pouch? errr no.

I understood that more expensive makes used finer milled materials which have greater staying power, but I still think it's hit and miss.
My DD uses cheap brands as she is a student- Rimmel. Revlon, Collection 2000 etc, and she always looks lovely but then she is just 22!

I'm still using Lancome eye shadow that is over 20 years old () and it's still perfect. No way would that be the case with L'Oreal, I'm sure.

OMG- throw it out now! It will be full of bacteria! Eye shadows and anything that brushes/fingers touch has a life span of 6 months, or a year max.

They are not the same. They use different ingredients and blends. They are often manufactured in the same factory.

I have carried out work in their factories and many other manufacturers. Lots of manufacturers do this.

nah, i think you get what you pay for TBH, I guess the ingredient, R&D are more for lancome. soprry!

As another makeup artist I'll put in my tuppenth worth - I don't know enough about ingredients to be able to categorically say whether something has a more expensive or better ingredients list, but from experience I can say that in the last year or so high street makeup has really improved.

I think a brand like Lancome is massively over-priced and we all buy into the brand and the packaging - it is incredibly seductive.

There is good stuff and bad stuff in all ranges but it is a folly to say that you get what you pay for. Although I love Laura M and Chantecaille - probably because it is so dear!

I don't think that price and branding is everything and have heard many make up artists say this.

Maybe for skincare, some of the time.

But for lippy etc I have read many MU artists rave about cheapo brands like Rimmel, Maybeline etc etc.

What they also say is it comes down to application- good brushes and good application can make a cheap product as effective as one ££££s.

Yes brushes and application (and commonsense) exactly!

brands lead us to believe that if we buy such and such we'll look like the pretty 17 year old on the poster. Or we'll have amazing luminous dewy smooth skin that lasts 17 hours and de ages us by ten years etc etc
