Excuse me while I rant...................anyone else feeling old and well over that very distant on the horizon hill???!!!!! I always thought I took good care of myself and looked on the good side of ok however turning thirty has brought with it the realisation that I am no longer 18 in spirit and definitely not in body!! Has anyone else considered botox and fillers? I've started taking my usual casual browse through my avon catalogue a little more seriously and the words dermabrasion and serum now bring with them hope of regaining what appears to be lost................!!!

I'm 35 next month which I'm quite depressed about.

I still shop at topshop and oasis a bit but I do feel to old for the majority of the stuff in there. Actually I feel too fat for most of the stuff in there. I have a friend in her 40s who is a size 8 and looks fab in all topshop stuff. I have to be more selective.

I do get some bits in White stuff, just avoid the really mumsy bits. I like fat face and h and m, still go in new look. I can't afford reiss, whistles, etc.

I like gap and Zara a lot. Some of the concessions in debenhams.

I wish I'd stepped up the exercise when I hit 30. I've put over two stone on in five years. I'm not eating more so it must be metabolism. Now I'm struggling to lose it.

you can mix and match, more expensive pieces with fashionable cheaper ones for fun. i really like reiss and Coss etc but i still feel too young for their toned down palettes so i like to mix with bighter pieces from say zara. there are no rules really except wear what suits you and makes you smile.

30 is still scary but im fighting it!
OP how much water do you drink, cut down on caffeine and try and get as much sleep as poss. and start a new exercise routine , maybe yoga/pilates

Havingkittens · 14/07/2011 11:40

Yep, metabolism definitely slows down. I was a size 6-8 for most of my 20s and could eat anything at all and not excercise (mostly because I actually was desperate to put on a bit of weight - Oh, for those days!), I entered my 30s a size 10 and left it a size 12-14 Sad

all these people wailing about being "old"...

you DO know the one and only alternative to being "old" is DEATH, do you?!

superv1xen · 14/07/2011 16:18

what a depressing thread.

baldbyfifty · 14/07/2011 19:11

This had made me smile and laugh out loud, can you all come and live in devon??? we could all pickle our livers and grow old disgracefully dressed of course in a mixture of zara, new look and topshop with m&s undies.... naturally xx

Pah......30s was tough but 40s is fabulous, when I turned 40 a few years ago it was the coolest thing on the planet,a badge of honour so to speak.DS is only 5 but hey ho I don't care anymore lol :o

Rofl at the op attracting hordes of ancient crones to her thread to tell her how young she is!

I'm 41, you know, and I'm wearing a topshop dress today. Who wants to be 18 anyway? As for botox or fillers, I wouldn't go down that route - I hope I never do. It's a lot of money for a very limited effect and sometimes a quite unpleasant effect, and I'm convinced that in about 30 years' time, there will be a lot of very strange-looking old ladies walking around.

Keep the sun off your face (and cleavage), get a reasonable amount exercise and sleep (if you can) and try not to see yourself as old.

You're never too old for any shop! (ok, except probably hollister)
My mum is in her 50s and she still shops in topshop, river island, warehouse, having my sisters, who are in their teens, might be keeping her young. My mum wears mini dresses and all the latest trends, but she chooses the classier pieces, the pencil skirts, leather jackets, smart tweed blazer with black leggings, etc. My mum is always being asked out and chatted up by well presented looking men which is rather embarrassing when the compliments aren't coming your way! She looks like an aging actress and I'm pretty sure my dad appreciates it. So I think it is perfectly doable to shop wherever you like. An older woman in fashionable clothes loses years, just like a woman who colours her greys. Dressing older just tells the world 'i'm old'. I can't imagine Madonna shopping in Jaeger just because she's over 50! Although I shan't slam Jaeger because I found a very funky pair of printed skinny trousers in the sale which I am enjoying wearing at the moment.
