What exactly constitutes 'style'?

Now this should be interesting........Grin

it is just defined as "a manner of doing something"

so, the circles you move in (or the magazines you read) determine what you consider to be stylish

it is subjective, and one woman's glam is another woman's trashy. The same outfit could also be elegant or frumpy depending on the observer.

Being seen as stylish is all about judging your audience.

Zwitterion · 13/07/2011 20:00

I reckon it might be a bit innate. Some people just are stylish.

Loads of people look good, nice, lovely, whatever. But there are some people who just look effortlessly (although I'm sure it's not) pulled together and stylish. Envy

individuality and confidence,recognisably themselves
not one of the high street sheep.def a trend setter than trend follower

meltedchocolate · 13/07/2011 20:53

confidence, and knowing your body and dressing in whatever 'style' (sorry to repeat the word) you feel great in and compliments your shape.

wicketkeeper · 14/07/2011 20:28

oo, interesting question. It's easier to say who's got it than what it is. I would say the following are stylish women - feel free to disagree:

Victoria Beckham, Catherine Zeta Jones, Audrey Hepburn. If you could work out what they had in common, you could answer the question.

tethersend · 14/07/2011 20:33

If you have to ask, there's no hope...

I don't have to ask.........I choose to.

confidence.

The same goes for sense of humour, apparently.

Lipstickgal · 14/07/2011 22:12

The secret to humour is surprise.

Oh dear.

After reading this forum for a few months

Summer dress, or shorts, but only with bare legs
Legs de-haired (shaved once a week is all that's required), then covered in fake tan
Thin ballet pumps, or silly heels
Jaunty scarf
And a quality HANDBAG (sorry I can't read that word without thinking of Lady Bracknell)

LuckyMrsT · 14/07/2011 22:44

Agree with meltedchocolate. It's about knowing what suits you and makes your figure and skintone look best. Unfortunately it means resisting some really pretty/highly fashionable things because they don't do it for you. I have never been able to buy a maxi dress for this reason. They tempt me from their hangers with their lovely floatyness but just do not suit a tall girl with broad shoulders.

LuckyMrsT · 14/07/2011 22:51

Ooh and my top stylish women are:

Nicole Richie
Victoria Beckham
Kate Moss
Alexa Chung

All a bit bloody obvious actually. I may as well ice the cake by saying that Princess Kate isn't doing too badly these days.

Confidence
Taking risks
Making it look effortless
Setting trends rather than following them

I also put it to Wicketkeeper that CZJ is not at all stylish.
