Nude tights - why the hatred?

I've seen so many journos and style bloggers criticising the Duchess of Cambridge for wearing sheer nude tights (despite the fact that she has to wear tights due to Royal protocol). But I don't understand why they seem to universally be seen as a bad thing? I think my legs look much worse when left bare (tbh I think most people look better in tights) and, let's face it, even in summer it can be bloody cold in the UK. So why the hatred? I genuinely don't get it. Can someone tell me why sheer tights are so reviled?

Hair free exfoliated legs with a light fake tan and well moisturised look fine! And a spray of oil on them for evening!

same for me Nodders, tho i don't mind the m&S 7 denier nude hold ups if i want my legs covered in the office sometimes.

ragged "black only goes with black" Hmm really?

redboots I get Jonathan Aston micronets from Selfridges (you can get them elsewhere, just can't recall where right now. Maybe Fenwicks). They come in three sizes A (small) B, C. I get C because am tall-ish and a chunker.

Fit is great!

Folks listen, I used to be in the 'how to survive without nude tights' category, to the extent that I ever bared my legs at all, but now? Three words.... Sally Hansen Light. Seriously, if you haven't tried it, get out there and buy some. It actually covers the imperfections on your legs but doesn't look like tights, therefore eliminating the need for tights.

Otherwise tights for me ain't a shooting offence except that I only wear stockings and only do black ones in winter. The only thing I really agree on is that tights with sandals is probably a no no.

If I worked in a smart office am sure I'd do fine nude tights but as I don't then I don't wear nude tights.

Am approaching 40 so if wearing dress/skirt to go out then they're normally knee length so with some fake tan and shimmery body lotion/dry leg oil they look fine with sandals.

But seriously - if you want to wear them then wear them but they do have a mumsy/formal association.

0 out of 10 for me for observation. I didn't even realise the Duchess of Cambridge was wearing tights! Blush
I'm going to have a look for nude tights now, to cover up my milk bottle legs, also the lovely big red mark from an argument with a bowl of hot soup, that I came off worst!

gregssausageroll · 22/07/2011 13:22

What tights does Kate wear though? You can barely tell.

I have a wedding coming up and will be wearing a knee length dress with nude shoes (closed toe). I have a surgery scar down one leg and a varicose vein on the other and wanted to wear tights but some are saying no tights but others are saying no bare legs with enclosed shoes! What to do!?

Greggs - if you're going to a formal occasion (and esp if it's something church-based) you should def wear tights. As to which brand, have a look around and see if you can get some that match your skintone (I like pretty polly naturals, but will obv depend on the colour of your legs).

Funny time lapse though. - look over the forum threads from October and notice how tights are totally acceptable and the height of style now that trends have shifted......
