(Boy) Toddler Raincoats?

Hi,

I've been searching everywhere in town (Asda, Sainsbury, H&M, Debenhams, M&S, Tesco etc) for a jacket for my 18 month old DS. Doesn't need to be a fully waterproof jacket just something rain/shower proof IYSWIM!

I have only managed to find one so far, from Next, which was nice and lined, but I wasn't too keen on the outer design (green tractors).

Jus wondering if anybody had any suggestions? It's not his winter jacket, more of a summer/autumn jacket to keep the wind/showers away!

Thanks
Pie :)

Just got one in the sale from Boden.

PieMistress · 01/07/2011 11:13

I saw the Boden ones but was put off slightly because they go over the head? Not sure how much of a battle that would be with a very wriggly hates getting dressed 18 month old? They are very funky though and I do like them .. mmmmmm!

It's not the cheapest but I like Hatley. The quality is great and the designs are really nice. See welliesandworms.co.uk/brands/hatley.html And it's also sold on Amazon (often cheaper) and sometimes in independent children's clothes shops.

TabithaTwitchet · 01/07/2011 11:19

I was going to say Hatley! I like them because they have a towelling lining, so not sweaty like some rainwear, plus the designs are lovely (well, the girl's ones are, haven't looked at boys ones.) DD loves hers.

PieMistress · 01/07/2011 11:30

I did see the Hatley ones. They're a little bit more than I was looking to pay BUT they are very nice and waterproof as opposed to showerproof, which living in Scotland might be a wiser move ;-P

Will check out their designs!

\link{http://www.muddypuddles.com/Waterproofs/Puddlepac-Lightweights\Muddy Puddles} stuff is great, but properly waterproof, and so a bit more expensive.

bacon · 01/07/2011 12:08

Second muddy puddles, do all sorts, well worth the money as you can sell on e-bay. I have loads of waterproofs including leggings/ all in ones/jackets and the pac a mac type. Highly recommended on quality and strength (proper construction with glue)

SofaKingOld · 01/07/2011 18:48

They often have nice ones in TKMaxx and I picked up a nice one in John Lewis for DS.

I agree - over the head are annoying. Hately are great. Agree with towelling lining comment. M&S sometimes do gorgeous ones (dS2 has a yellow one from last season which looks a bit Boden - its always commented on - I had a look at this years - similar but not quite as cute) Kidorable v. good but can be a bit 'stiff'. Scandi ones always very good, thin fabric, totally waterproof, but pricey

M&S have got a lovely one at the moment. It is the same as they had last year when I bought it for my DS. Goes from 1 year plus. Its yellow, with cotton lining in a white and dark navy stripe. Zips up asymetrically on the front. £20 I think.

HappyAsEyeAm · 28/02/2012 12:54

TK Maxx had some lovely raincoats when I was in there at the weekend. It isn't reliable though as branches have such different stock.

PrincessOfWails · 28/02/2012 13:05

M&S - Happy got in there before me, but it's truly lovely, and in red as well as yellow.
red and also in blue.
They also have a cheaper one, stripy and tasteful.

JoJo Maman Bebe has a good rainproof jacket with a fleecy lining. I got one for DS with red outside and blue and white stripe inside. It's reversible too! They do other rather fetching rainwear aswell.

accessorizequeen · 28/02/2012 17:30

Not quite sure what the point is of a non-waterproof jacket, may as well buy something waterproof! Boden coats are cute but not waterproof except for the snow jackets (I have one & still don't rate it as much as others). I don't think the high street stores do proper waterproofs (i.e. taped seams) other than H&M who do brilliant windproof and waterproof jackets like this and this. Muddy puddles is fantastic as are Togz, regatta are good for the price, little trekkers have lots of choice.
Are the Hatley ones completely waterproof or does it depend on the design? I need a jacket for dd and wanted an a-line style for her which Hatley do in cute prints. But no point if they're not waterproof, can't see how they can be with just poppers or do some have zips?

Rainydayagain · 28/02/2012 20:19

Muddy puddles, totally agree my children both live in theirs, ebay though much much cheaper!
Rainflex is the best.

BeeBread · 28/02/2012 20:31

DS has a lovely traditional yellow one from Trotters.

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 28/02/2012 22:23

We have the JoJo one too, it's great

Heswall · 28/02/2012 22:48

You've just missed sainsbury's 25% off deal but I got a fleece lined one for about £10 and they are every bit as good as Boden, I buy a lot from sainsbury's these days as the designs aren't a million miles from Boden and the quality is about the same too for 1/3 of the price.

lynniep · 29/02/2012 14:53

HappyAsEyeAm, that M&S one is the one I meant! DS2 has it and its lovely. (I returned DS1's in red - wasnt quite as nice and grandma forgot she'd already bought him a Hatley!!)

The hatley ones are waterproof - but yes they do have poppers so I guess the rain could get in that way - DS1 is not a puddle jumper so its not an issue, but DS2 might still get wet (but then DS2 manages to get wet wearing a full waterproof suit and wellies - where there's a will there's a way!)

Sleepwhenidie · 29/02/2012 17:00

POP do fantastic jackets, waterproof, windproof and some with removable fleece. Not cheap but they are great and last forever, the smallest of mine are now being used third time by dc3 and still looking good. 20% off offer on at the moment I think.
