Want to help me design a dress?

So, I have been invited to a black-tie party and have nothing to wear. In my previous life pre-DC I had my own business designing and making wedding/evening gowns and so I thought I would make my dress for this party, but I am struggling with the style. I used to find it very easy to design for others, but find it nearly impossible for myself!

One of the main problems is that since having my second DC I have lost so much weight that I barely have a 'woman's' figure. I have no breasts at all and little in the way of hips. I am very self-conscious about this (and the comments I get don't help) and find dressing my 'figure' very hard. So the dress needs to give me a bit of shape and hide the bones (no mean feat!!) Grin I am also tall, so I am worried that a full length dress will make me look like a very long thin beanpole!!

I was thinking maybe a one-shoulder style like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=blog.smashion.com/home/resource/lauralf/Oscars02.jpg&imgrefurl=blog.smashion.com/home/entry/celebrity_oscar_dress_predictions&usg=__NKe85z09l1SqwYq243nOdzjpt-w=&h=480&w=320&sz=59&hl=en&start=563&zoom=1&tbnid=Lsc-qVKErSruwM:&tbnh=117&tbnw=86&ei=A3kNTr27NZGo8QPGpszXDg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Doscar%2Bdresses%2Bnatalie%2Bportman%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dubuntu%26channel%3Dfs%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D421%26tbm%3Disch&chk=sbg&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=801&vpy=39&dur=106&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=96&ty=219&page=44&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:563" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this but not so sheer, to add some interest at the top, or this, or may be something like this?

These ideas are for inspiration only, but hopefully you get the idea! I need to cover up, but add some shape and interest. It is a tough order, but hopefully some of you will have some more ideas for me!

TIA Smile

I love that one shouldered style, beautiful. Also draping is great for concealing/enhancing. Tall and thin is a great figure to dress, lots would be envious of your shape, so don't feel bad about it.

Draping to enhance bust and hips

this would be lovely

one shouldered AND draping

This whole page is full of beautiful dresses

Thanks for those links, Verity! Some absolutely gorgeous dresses! I am quite excited about getting my sewing machines out again as it's been so long since I made anything.

Tall and thin is ok, but I am just so angular and just do not feel feminine at all. I want to feel classy and beautiful, not bony and sharp!! Grin

HavingKittens, thank you so much for those links! I hadn't thought about 20's/30's styles. I have just spent ages going through that website and they have some gorgeous patterns. I've been getting loads of ideas! I am now spoilt for choice! Grin
