If you HAD to buy an outfit for a September wedding, what would you buy?

I'm going round and round in circles looking for a wedding guest outfit for my SIL's wedding in Sept. The issue is I just have no idea what to wear, I haven't been to a wedding in years!

So, what would you wear if you were me? All size, height issues aside.

I have disproportionate legs is all, so I go for long dresses (plus am over average height). I love that maxis are back in fashion because it means there are lots of them in the shops, and I can buy them and continue wearing them through to the time when people say "oh that is so 2010".

Kaliko blue tulips are beautiful.

mumatron · 24/06/2011 20:45

how about something like this if you don't mind black for a wedding.

HettyAmaretti · 24/06/2011 20:52

OK, dull, but I'd go for this dress, these (or these if the colour of the first pair wasn't as good a match as it looks to be and this jacket.

the dress has been linked to many a time, but it is a lovely and perfect for a wedding.

HettyAmaretti · 24/06/2011 20:54

I had a hat. Where is my hat? Will find it.

HettyAmaretti · 24/06/2011 20:58

Ah, here it is. Nice and mad.

I think I must have pressed 'back' on teh browser, had also changed to black shoes, think it was a black version of the Andy shoes. Ho hum.

defineme · 24/06/2011 21:01

Hetty has got it. Smart but not frumpy, shoes that will make your legs go on for ever -spanx is the only other thing you'll need. Such good taste Hetty!

Gorran · 24/06/2011 21:07

I love that dress Hetty, but am scared of the colour (or non-colour?!) - I just wonder if it would be flattering to a pale person? We're on holiday a month before the wedding, so I should be tanned (and am happy to fake it if it's gone by the wedding) - do you think it would flatter someone like me?

As Geordieminx said above, I really need to get out shopping.

Ooh, Verity dress is nice.

mumatron · 24/06/2011 21:40

not a big fan of the colour but love the verity dress.

TattyDevine · 24/06/2011 21:46

Guarantee we get an Indian summer and roast like hogs on a spit

Bollocks to all these weddings

Specially SIL who was a right misery at mine Grin

I'll spit in her boquet Angry

Not really but it better be well catered in the Wine dept.

HettyAmaretti · 24/06/2011 21:54

yy, spanx and a properly fitting bra.

I think that dress would flatter most women TBH, for some reason I assume you have dark hair Hmm

For clarity I was going with black heels (these or these) to ensure hat and jacket work with dress independently of one another. Buggered up my post.

In an ideal world I'd redo my hair (looser and wilder) and go with just the dress and nude heels (as per original post) for evening. Lower-but-still-high ones for dancing if you don't often do so high as the black. here.

Otherwise would add some sort of quirky black flower / accessory to my hair to make the black shoes keep working without jacket or hat.

Red lipstick?

HettyAmaretti · 24/06/2011 23:10

Am getting all excited about going to wedding. Shame we don't have any this year. Have totally fallen in love with that VW jacket and the shoes. Bugger. They'd fab-up many a dress and a multitude of shifts...

would work with it. different belt, obviously

love this. wouldn't dare to wear it

WhollyGhost · 25/06/2011 08:43

I'd wear this:

www.hobbs.co.uk/index.cfm?page=1017&productid=0111-5661-3192L00&productvarid=0111-5661-3192L00-RASPBERRY-8

also love the first dorothy perkins dress

BulletWithAName · 25/06/2011 20:43

This dress with some nude platforms and a nude clutch. Dunno about headwear though, would have to be a fascinator, I can't do hats.
