Footwear - please help me!

I need something practical to wear on my feet on days like today when it is pouring with rain but I need to get DS1 back and forth to preschool etc.
I have ballet flats, and birkenstocks but my feet get soaked in both of these. I have boots for the winter. I have heels for when I am dressing up. What else is there? Trainers??

Something like this is acceptable enough (though not generally a Joules fan it has to be said) and less full on than a welly. But definitely waterproof. Fine under jeans really.

No I am very keen to avoid a mum-boot, which in my mind is an awful mid-heel black, square-toed thing. Yuck.

See they are not my thing at all - I could definitely not carry those off!

When you think about it it really needs to be a boot of some sort, or at least a water resistant closed shoe. Trainers fit this definition but if they are not "you" (I am not a trainer person - only for exercise - others look fine in them, I feel like that chubby little girl who was always the slowest on the basketball court all over again!) - then a boot. A high heeled ankle boot of whatever kind (excluding the mum sort) is waterproof to a point and more chic than a flatter mum boot or wellly. That said, there is nothing silly or unstylish about wearing wellies if it really is very wet. If you are in a village or countrified area then even less so. If you are in a city or urban area you might feel like you are over egging the pudding. In that case I think a "workers" chelsea boot or biker boot is cooler than a mum boot or trainers, though trainers are fine depending what else you are wearing with it.

I knew the wellybobs would make an appearance. I want them, admittedly not the ones with dogs on. Tbh you would probably be best with a good pair of wellies like Hunters etc.

I know Fimbo, its predictable but "acceptable" if its raining and you don't want to wear the full welly.

I think wellies are sort of "exempt" when it really is wet and muddy. During all that snow they were all over London, even!

Ooh sorry that sounded sarky. I didn't mean it like that. Just that they are the most practicle option. I sooooo want them.

Biker - type boots, oh also elastic sided jodhpur boots can look OK, especially if you get sort of slightly clumpier ones. I find driving in wellies a bit difficult, maybe cos my legs are so short that the back of the top of the welly gets caught on the front of the drivers seat.

How about some Crocs.... Not the hole cheese lego inspired jobbies but the closed clog type? Some of them don't scream Crocs and there are some passable styles which would be practical and comfortable.

The style I was thinking of is called the 'Surrey clog' and they seem to be on offer at the moment. The good thing about Crocs is they dry really quickly too if they do get wet inside and the traction is pretty good.

Oh yes and they are also doing a converse inspired style at the moment which isn't too shabby.

Thanks everyone. None of those are really screaming at me, I'm definitely not a crocs person.
The wellybobs are probably my favourite, although I wonder what they are like to drive in?
