Can anyone who understands bra fittings come and tell me where I'm going wrong.

Quite a few of my bras are past their best. I've also put on a few pounds and think my boobs have got bigger and with some of my bras was getting a bit of a four boob effect which I presume is caused by a too small cup size.

So I went to m&s yesterday, tried some on was told I now needed a 38d rather than usual 38c. Tried some on, they felt fine and looked ok.

But today I've been moving some furniture nd when I bend down my boobs fall out the top. So does that mean the cup size is too big. I tucked them back in and tightened the shoulder straps a bit but then seemed to get a bit of a four boob effect again.

They are a plunge style type bra and the inner, middle sides of my boobs isn't covered up by the cup. So I don't know if I need a bigger cup size or a smaller one. Can your boobs fall out if the cup size is too small? Or might it just be the plunge style which doesn't suit.

Just wanted to say I found this thread really informative, and I have been to Bravissimo and got properly fitted for the first time in years. The last time was for a feeding bra 6 years ago!

I came out a 32 FF, and have comfortable bras that support me and give me a good shape.

Can I ask what you should do if your skin isn't very well toned - as it means a tight band gives you that awful bulging around the band? I end up opting for larger/more comfortable bands, as the bulge makes me feel really fat.

You do what you want and what feels comfortable. It's your own body. I can't wear tight underbands because they press on my mastectomy scars and I hate red marks and don't want my skin to deteriorate.

I think this is a fashion, the tight underband. Look at how bra fashions have changed over the years, how what is considered the 'right' breast shape changes alongside fashion trends. Some people do find current fashions uncomfortable for various reasons. There is a reason shops designed for older women sell non wired bras, comfort! Less bothered about them sticking outwards and upwards more likely to get nasty skin reactions if something is overly tight.

Love this super useful thread so a 34f is what I measure as (well 32 but too tight for me) looks and feels perfect in shop wear it and get double boob effect in 1 of them.. One is deffo bigger by almost a cupsize and perhaps not as pert as they could be.. so I try some others g is too big dd and e is too small also 34 band is leaving red marks and can't wait to fling it off so I'm thinking go up a band size or 2? But what about cups? So 36e or 36f or more? I have an Ann summers one that fits best and like boux avenue but not working. I really need some cotton summery not sweaty bras any help please?

@Airfriedpotatowitch I'd probably start a new thread, this ones 11 years old. Boob or bust Facebook group is very good.

hihellohihello · 23/06/2022 10:53

@Airfriedpotatowitch, yes, the boob or bust method will give you a tight band which is good if you want to hoist them up but not so good if you've soft sensitive flesh on your underarm area or back. Which can be an issue as we get older and suffer with dry / hormonal skin. I tend to look at where the edge of the bands will land on my skin to see if it will dig in or rub. If you try on and you can see a red mark that quickly, reject it.

And I would size to the cup you need for the biggest breast and get one with removable padding so you can pad the smaller one out.
