Going for fishy pedicure .. Is this ok with having chemo and can I leave my nail varnish on ?

I've booked myself and my best friend in tomorrow. BF is having chemo and the salon said that's fine but just wondered if anyone could reassure me on that ?
Also I,ve got psorrasis on my toe nails quick makes them look terribly yellow and fungal ! Even tho they a not . Will I be allowed to leave nail varnish on as I'd be very embarrassed if I have to remove it .

No! Those places are full of germs. Thats the last thing anyone with chemo needs!

One of these fishy places has just opened near us - no evidence the people have any real knowledge of manicures and pedicures, can't help thinking they're just trying to cash in on a craze. I'm afraid I think they're all a bit tacky and wouldn't go to one if I wanted a good pedicure. Also agree about hygiene point.

Thanks I'll cancel . Trying to think of things to do at the moment to take her mind off treatment and it was just a thought. Thanks tho. Wouldn't want to risk any infection.

Agree with the other posters - I would question the hygiene in such places. I don't believe the staff are beauty therapists as such.

Do you have a good salon nearby where you could book for both of you to have a pedicure?

Agree with all of the above. The thought just makes me ill.

I'm going to buck the trend here - just went for one at the weekend, itches great! Staff in the spa I went to were beauticians and on chatting knew lots about the fish and the treatments they were giving. The place was pristine and the tanks have a consent filter system running using uv etc to keep clean. They gave everyones feet a total check before Gand for things like athletes foot, verrucas etc and anything like that would have meant a no for doing the fishy part. You will need to take your nail polish off, they insist on this so they can check for things like fungal nail infections. Not directs the experience would be ok for your friend or not, a call to a nurse/dr involved with her treatment would prob be best to check. My Mum and I really enjoyed our fishy pedicures, slightly weird but a fun hour, and my feet felt great after.

A friend of mine went for one with then undiagnosed leukaemia and the fish woudn't go anywhere near her feet.

I've been on chemo and was v careful to avoid any possible infection risk, so I'd be very careful if I were her and be guided by the specialist nurses.

The cleaning systems are similar to those used in public swimming pools. In the spa we went to the water in the tank was filtered through the cleaning system completely every ten mins. Inside the spa, once your feet were checked and washed, you were given a pair of their crocs to wear, so feet stated clean as you walked to and from tanks.
