Piercing virgin but with tendency to keloid - shall I get my ears peirced?

I've been thinking of getting my ears pierced - I have a boho 'look' (hahah - never thought of myself as having a 'look') and think it could be good - plus I seem to have noticed that nice earrings can really make an outfit (is this right?). But the downsides are that I when I had a mole removed on my neck I did have a build up of keloid tissue - so am a bit scared this could happen on my ear (urgh!), plus thinking it must hurt when you lie down if you have earrings in???
Where would I get it done..?!?!

Please don't risk it. I saw a woman on telly once who had keloids on her earlobes from piercing. She was in a right state trying to get them sorted out. Earrings don't 'make' an outfit. I doubt many people even notice them (but they would notice big keloids).

Good point - just trying to search for any decent non-pierced earrings.

I wouldn't risk it if you are prone to keloids. Just keep an eye out for non-pierced earrings if you want some (sometimes Peruvian Connection stocks them). Or make the most of other accessories - earrings aren't necessary to make an outfit.

I don't have pierced ears and its terribly difficult finding earrings that are comfortable. Years ago Corocraft used to make a mini-clip earring that you couldn't feel but sadly they went out of business. If you want to wear decent earrings you need pierced ears so perhaps you should talk to a cosmetic surgeon before you have it done - its a bit risky if you have a tendency to Keloid tissue

A good male friend of mine is a bit of a cross dresser and wanted some long sparkly earrings to wear to a party, but he doesn't have pierced ears. I looked for ages but couldn't find any, so in the end I bought some clip on earring backs from hobbycraft and some cheap sparkly pierced ear earrings. All you need to do is bend the post of the pierced ear earring until it snaps off, and superglue the clip on back onto the earring. Let it dry for a bit and you're done. It's so easy, and you can then buy any earrings that take your fancy, as long as the earring is large enough to cover the clip.

Ooh good tip alligator - I've also seen some ear cuff type things which look pretty cool!

I always buy my Mum clip-on earrings - John Lewis have a pretty big range, as do a company called 'Monet' who sell in JL and Harrods amongst other places. Not too expensive either.
