Should I get a fringe?

What are the pros and cons?

I've had the same hair forever. It's just hair that hangs down either side of my face, it's been the same forever just gradually got shorter, now just above shoulders. It's not dead straight not is it wavy. I have a few long layers.

I do, however have a v v wrinkly forehead. The hereditary sort of deep wrinkle (like one of those wrinkly dogs) that happen when I raise my eyebrows, like there's too much skin. Never minded at all till DD said 'I don't like those bumps on your forhead, what are they?'

Would a fringe hide them or would it be v annoying and hard to maintain?

I know it would grow back, but having had the same hair forever it will be a massive change for me! Pathetic I know, but I'm not really into"hair'n'beauty" type stuff. + if it looks really stupid will be in my bros wedding pics. Feels like a BIG decision, legacy of mother never letting me cut my hair, I think!

Not pathetic....a good question, I think. I too face this. Tomorrow. To make it worse, it's a new hairdresser too!

Fringes can make some people look very young, I think. I had a fringe for years and loved it. In fact one boyfriend said "NEVER get rid of that fringe" but I did and have loved being without it too.

Problem is, if you really really don't like it, it's the one thing you can do nothing about. For a few months, anyway. I'd say try it and see. You may love it!

Get one. If you don't like it, you can wear it to the side as it grows out, or just clip/hairspray it out of the way. If you don't you'll never know!

Use this with a pic of yourself to see if it will suit you. Works really well :)

Thanks angry, but the link doesn't work.

How easy is it to maintain a fringe?

I think you are either a "fringe" person, or you aren't.

I've had one all my life, and it hides a vast wrinkly expanse of forehead. Cheaper than Botox, as I always say.

They are as easy to maintain as the rest of your hair, but if your hair is fine like mine a fringe can get greasy/limp after a couple of days. A can of dry shampoo is a godsend, or have a mini "hairwash and blowdry" of the front section of your hair.

Rosietheriveter28 · 07/06/2011 18:09

I've had quite a heavy set fringe for a few years now (well, apart from about 6 months recently when I grew it out but it's back now) It's great when my hair is styled, however;
If you're anything like me and have crazy lady hair whenever you wake up - the fringe tends to go a bit 'Something About Mary' meaning it has to be washed and styled every day. Which I do most days but on lazy Sundays when I just want to nip to the local shop, it's a bit of a pain. I can look deranged. If you can generally sleep on your hair without it going absolutely fucking bezerk (can you tell I am a bit annoyed about this?) then it will be fine.

Rosietheriveter28 · 07/06/2011 18:09

As an aside - I alwasy get ID'd when I have a fringe. So I think there's something to be said for it making you look younger.

Yup my fringe made everyone comment how much younger I looked am growing it out now as I want a change but will have one again sometime.
