Sorry should mind my own business really but here goes-

  1. How often do you get your hair cut?
  2. How long does it take?
  3. Do you always make an appointment and see the same person?
  4. How much does it cost?

If you are interested here are my answers

  1. About every six months
  2. Not sure, 25 minutes without shampoo?
  3. No never, always just walking past and find somewhere that can do it.
  4. £15- £20

  3. Yes same person for years
  4. About £130 plus tip
strawberryjelly · 31/05/2011 21:04

Every 3 months for a cut. £70
Highlights twice a year with blow dry £120-ish

Always the same person. Book ahead usually.

psiloveyou · 31/05/2011 21:16

Every 8 weeks
About 2.5 hours
One person does colour, another the cut and dry. Always the same people
Between £90 and £125 depening on wether I have full or half head hilights.

duckyfuzz · 31/05/2011 21:19

every 5-6 weeks
45 mins to an hour, up to 3 for colour and cut
yes
£40 cut/blow dry £75 with highlights, don't usually tip (never have cash!)

MittzyTheMinx · 31/05/2011 21:28

  1. every 4/5 weeks as I hate my hair growing Hmm
  2. wash, cut and blow dry... erm 20 mins, never really checked,
  3. always make an appointment and always see the same person.
  4. £28 plus a tip.

She is fab and it is worth it.
I went for about 15 yrs without a hairdressers appointment as I shaved my own hair and it is a luxury I would be reluctant to give up Smile

DoubleDegreeStudent · 31/05/2011 22:20
  1. Every two to three months - if I could afford it it would be every three weeks (my hair grows terrifyingly fast)
  2. 45 minutes - 1 hour for a wash, head massage, cut and blow dry (NO idea how)
  3. Yes - always the head stylist of the same salon. I've had my next cut booked for 2 months, I'm so obsessive about getting to see her.
  4. £50. It's expensive, and I feel bad because I can't justify that and a tip, but it's central London and my cutter "gets" me [pathetic attempt at justification emoticon]

everyspring I know it isn't for London, but I always get horrified looks from my non-London friends when they hear the price, so I find myself adding "but it's central London". It adds up a bit more when I factor in my Eurostar back from Paris for it...Blush

  1. How often do you get your hair cut? 6-8 weeks

mummyosaurus · 01/06/2011 08:18

My friend from school does it for me.

Every 6 - 8 weeks, she charges £5 a head (does the kids too) and she is fab. We have a lovely gossip chat while she's here.

I find regular cut keeps it in a style (long shoulder length) and I like it best for the 2 - 6 weeks bit.

You are all brilliant, thanks.

What would you like to see in a salon? and what don't you like?

Sorry for shouting, just wanted to get your attention Smile

BTW I can't go mobile, I'm not a hairdresser, would really love a salon though and am full of ideas (although some might be rubbish).

Aside from the usual competent staff and nice receptionists....

Massage chairs at the hair washing station (mine has two normal chairs and one massage, with priority going to me regular customers). Nice magazines, not tatty ones that look like they've been picked up off the floor of a bus. Somewhere obvious to put my handbag like a little hook by the mirror - mine always ends up having hair all over it (and inside, somehow?) from being on the floor.

And a good cup of tea. Wine, champagne, fruit juice, coffee and herbal teas all fine but nothing beats a proper cup of tea.

LemoryMane · 01/06/2011 15:41
  1. I colour my hair myself at home every 6 weeks and go to the hairdressers for a cut every 6 weeks.
  1. Takes about 90 mins.
  1. I always see the same person, and usually book ahead while I'm at the appointment (but invariably end up changing it nearer the time).
  1. £50 for wash, cut and blowdry.
kitkatya · 01/06/2011 15:48

  1. How often do you get your hair cut? Every 8 -10 weeks, I never keep that 6 week appointment they force you to make.
  1. How long does it take? About an hour for a cut and blow dry. Colours could come to two hours.
  1. Do you always make an appointment and see the same person? Yes and if he's not in, I will just book for a blow dry if Im going somewhere if not, I will wait til he gets back. I do tend to change hairdressers every 3-4 years, I dont think it pays to keep using the same person and most of my friends agree.
  1. How much does it cost? its London so £48 for a cut and blow dry but I pay £34 with my NHS discount. (very lucky in that respect) Ive started to colour my own hair which has saved loads.

One thing I would love to see is a hairdressers who can make a decent coffee!! Ive been to the poshest salons and they have got the instant out, it really taints it for me. Its never strong enough either!!! My hairdresser at the moment is a lovely Irish bloke and I think he is the only one I have come accross that can make a proper cup of tea!! Smile

ChippyMinton · 01/06/2011 16:48

In a salon I like to see:

fresh new magazines, not piles of weeks or months old tat. Don't mind what type -gossip and fashion are good, across the range from OK to Vogue.

Choice of hot & cold drinks in nice mugs or glasses.

Fresh flowers on reception

Clean and well-swept floor

Clean tools of the trade (obviously!)

Not to be seated in view of passers-by.

Water at a consistent temperature, preferably warm(!)

Comfy neck basins, and lovely juniors who want to practise head massage on me.

Friendly staff, not gossiping amongst themselves.

Up to date and well put together style books.

(I did miss all this, when my hairdresser went mobile, but now I appreciate the luxury of not having to leave the house to get my hair done, and at half the price)

kitkatya · 01/06/2011 17:33

Ah, the massage. How come the head massage varies so much? I have to say its the one thing that I look forward to the most but, very rarely get Sad. Even worse one place I go to sometimes for a blow dry has amazing massage chairs yet, without exception, every single person that washes my hair there practically pulls it out!! Its like being tortured.

I second up to date mags, preferably not Take a Break with all the puzzles done. Goodness, Im sounding like a right snob now.

Oh, and the friendly factor. Its a hard one, I love my hairdresser but, I know Im going to have to leave him within the year. unless I keep him at arms length. Ive had too many experiences were the more people get to know you the less they concentrate on the job in hand. My friends say the same thing.
