Wedding dress for budget wedding

used2bthin · 28/05/2011 19:47

I am getting married in november and although it won't be a traditional big wedding and we are keeping costs as low as possible, I THINK I want to wear a white dress. I would also wear a dress in another colour if I loved it and would wear again. Any ideas or websites for low cost dresses? It will have to be off the peg as not much time.

What is your dress budget used2bthin?

Rather than trying on wedding dresses, which I agree, might make you feel short changed if you can't have one, why don't you try on some ridiculous evening wear that you would never wear, just to get an idea of the styles which suit you.

Love love love PickleSarnie's dress

If you do want a "big" wedding dress but don't want to spend the money, then some of the dressmakers on ebay may be worth a look (they are usually made in China). They copy designer bridal gowns and make them to measure. Obviously, the quality isn't going to be the same as a designer dress but I know a few people who have used them and have been impressed.

You could go shopping, try some on and find out what suits you and go from there.

Great taste, PickleSarnie; this was mine, minus the halterneck strap, after much perusing of Honeypie and similar vendors' wares :) With the matching petticoat it came to £150, and everyone got to see my fabulous green shoes Grin

Look in the phone book for dressmakers in case you need alterations as the bridal shops will not help you, there very strict about it.

Try sample sales too, I thought I wanted a wear again dress till I tried a bridal dress on so I used bhs for the bridesmaids to save money. Veils are a rip off so use eBay to get a good second hand one try and get a silk one if you can cheap netting feels vile.

Love that honeyupie website! My cousin had a gorgeous fifties dress for hers and she had lovely shoes which she got to show off too!

Mummylouise what a bargain £12! There is a monsoon dress I quite like. Need a trying on day I think, child free. And good idea to try on evening wear for styles. I know I definately want something boned as have seen how effective that stuff is!

And cannot wait till I am shopping for flower girl stuff for DD.

I order mine in the phase eight sale online in January/ February. It was £75. It's satiny and I'm now worried it will show the lumps and bumps - oh heck.

Oh and congratulations!

used2bthin · 30/05/2011 08:41

Thanks melodyangel! You too! And as for lumps and bumps I have got two phase eight dresses and they are sooo flattering. Both were bought when I felt particularly lumpy and bumpy and hid everything, they must be well cut there. And tk maxx for shape underwear!
